Rockville is gearing up for another bright and festive night as The Square prepares to host its annual Rockville Tree Lighting on Friday, December 5, 2025. The celebration runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 36 Maryland Avenue (the area formerly known as Rockville Town Square), where the community will gather for an evening packed with music, entertainment, and holiday spirit.

A $50,000 winning ticket sold at the 7-Eleven at 700 Gaither Road in Rockville, was selected from 85,032 tickets as in the first Maryland Lottery Holiday Raffle Early Bird drawing was sold to an as-yet-unclaimed winner . Value City Furniture’s parent company, American Signature, Inc. (ASI), has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, the company announced this week. As part of the restructuring, the Value City Furniture location at 12055 Rockville Pike, located in the Montrose Crossing Shopping Center, is slated to close, according to USA Today.

Wootton High School in Rockville was evacuated Monday morning after staff reported a gas smell near the building’s boiler room. Students and staff were directed out of the building around the start of the school day and moved to outdoor athletic areas as a precaution.

The Rockville City Police Department (RCPD) is investigating an incident in which two individuals approached a woman in a parking lot on the 700 block of Hungerford Drive and stole her necklace. The incident occurred at approximately 4:19 p.m. on November 16, 2025, as the victim was getting into her vehicle. (more…)


Rockville Mayor and City Council have approved a plan to allow construction of a 147-unit affordable apartment building at 41 Maryland Ave., bringing new housing to a long-vacant property in Rockville’s Town Center and supporting their priority of expanding access to affordable housing in the city.
