Last month we let you know that Chido’s Tex-Mex Grill has signed on to take over the space that was recently home to The Eleanor at 931 Ellsworth Dr. in Downtown Silver Spring. The restaurant has wrapped the windows with coming soon signage as it prepares for a late spring opening.

In April we let you know that Copper Canyon Grill is requesting approval for a 1,012 square foot covered dining pier to be located on the RIO Lake. The restaurant submitted its final site plan back in July and the planning commission approved it unanimously at a September meeting. Earlier this week, Copper Canyon released new renderings of what to expect, including the finished product of other ongoing exterior renovations (photos below).

The Maryland State Police has announced that it will increase patrols and DUI enforcement over St. Patrick’s Day Weekend, including in Gaithersburg’s Rio and Crown areas. Montgomery County Police previously announced increased police presence this weekend on local roads due the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. (more…)


Rio and many Montgomery County residents celebrated the opening of the IKEA Plan & Order location at 101 Boardwalk Place Ste 102 on Wednesday, March 13. The celebration took place from 11am-2pm and featured free food and drinks, including IKEA’s patented Swedish meatballs (they will not be regularly available at the location).

Pink Chicken, a children’s clothing company, will be opening its first Maryland location very soon. The company announced the location via social media earlier this month. “Hey, Bethesda, here we come! We are so excited to be opening up a new Pink Chicken store in Bethesda, MD -opening mid March! Our customers mean so much to us, and can’t wait to meet more of you in person so so soon!

WRS, Inc. has submitted Schematic Development Plan application SDP-9736-2024 proposing to redevelop the existing Lakeforest Mall property with 1,600 residential units, 750,000 square feet of employment uses, 250,000 square feet of large format retail, and 220,000 square feet of commercial uses, per the City of Gaithersburg website.
