D.C. native bagel shop Call Your Mother is coming to Bethesda. They will be operating out of a repurposed trolley parked on Old Georgetown Road near Suburban Hospital.

The trolly boasts the classic bubble gum pink and bright teal that is featured through Call Your Mother locations.  They plan to open within a few weeks once all of the permits are approved, and will be parked in this spot for the foreseeable future, but at some point might be available for events and possibly moving to another location. They will be serving bulk bagels and bagel sandwiches, just like their other locations. As of right now, there is no outdoor seating.

La Casita, best known for their pupusas,  was featured on a recent episode of Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations on The Cooking Channel. The episode first aired earlier this month and features interviews with employees and customers inside La Casita’s original Silver Spring location.

La Casita has 2 other locations in MoCo: Gaithersburg and Germantown. Outside of MoCo, you can also find them inside Nationals Park and at their second DC location near Union Market.

It appears as though Bagel City in Rockville may have closed.  As first reported by ABC7’s Kevin Lewis, the light up sign with the restaurant’s name has been taken down, there is a “For Lease” sign in the window, and the restaurant seems to have been emptied of all tables and equipment.

Bagel City, located in the Pike Center shopping center off of Rockville Pike, had been in operation in that location for almost 40 years.

PR at Partners hair salon announced that their Pike & Rose location is closing permanently. In an email that was sent out to their clients, they stated that they are closing due to the “health and financial crisis” that COVID-19 has created.

They plan to keep their Reston VA and Mazza Gallerie (Friendship Heights) locations open.

Last week, we shared with you a list of Black-owned, MoCo-based restaurants compiled by MoCo resident Sydney Williams. This week, we wanted to share a list of a wider variety of Black-Owned businesses as well.  This list consists of businesses that MoCo Show readers suggested to us, plus some businesses that were listed on SupportBlackOwned.com.  We realize that this does not cover all Black-owned businesses in our community, so please feel free to comment with any that we might have missed (or if you notice anything that should be corrected).
