Montgomery County Council Member, Roger Berliner, tweeted the following about prepaying property tax in MoCo: “The County issued an update on the property tax prepayment option & the IRS advisory on this matter: bit.ly/2E7UrZK. It is very disappointing. We did what we could. Do consult with your tax adviser before considering prepayments.”
Popular Silver Spring coffee shop, Bump ‘N Grind, is holding the grand opening of their kiosk at Ellsworth Place (formerly City Place Mall). Ellsworth Place is slowly but surely making the right moves.

Herson Reyes, 25, was born in San Miguel, El Salvador. He moved to Silver Spring, MD with his mother, his two brothers, and his sister when he was 7 years old. He attended Glen Haven Elementary School and Parkland Middle School. His family moved to Wheaton and finally Gaithersburg, where Herson graduated from Quince Orchard High School.
Herson wanted to work from a young age. His older brother Ever, who was already working as a bar back at the Capitol Hill Cava Mezze location, told Herson and his twin brother Edward that there was one bussing position available at Cava Mezze in D.C. The twins played a game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” to see who the opportunity would go to…Herson won.

I just received a tip from someone who spoke directly to the people working on the old Sakura location in Olney. They are expanding it so that it can become an IHOP.
They sell mini-burgers (not sliders) using 2.8 ounce patties that are larger than a slider sized patty. Their selling point is variety, and there’s plenty of it. They offer 11 different types of patties, including beef, dry aged beef, Wagyu beef, merguez, Turkey, lamb, chicken, salmon, veggie, Spanish beef, and falafel.
Their disc shaped fries are more like slices of potatoes, but they also provide the option to get sweet potato fries (in the traditional shape), onion rings, or home fries (cubes potatoes tossed in chili sauce and topped with sesame seeds).
Many call the Sunshine Burger from the Sunshine General Store in Brookeville (some call the area Sunshine, between Olney and Damascus) the best burger in Maryland– but not everyone agrees…
I think it’s a very good burger. I can’t definitively tell you it’s the best in MoCo or Maryland without doing more research, but many will tell you that it doesn’t get better than the Sunshine Burger. When I made a post this past summer, referring to it as the best burger in Maryland, Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder disagreed. “Couldn’t be more wrong” he tweeted. “Overpriced burger that is a 6/10 at best. The high expectations I had for it hurt the rating” he continued.
Some of my favorite restaurants in MoCo are the ones you step foot in and feel like you’ve entered 1991. The food is usually really good, but you’d never know it by looking at the restaurant from the outside. The bar is often filled with the same regulars that have been taking up seats for decades. I don’t want to call them “divey” cause there’s a negative connotation that comes with that and most of the time these places hold some of our favorite memories (all images via the Restaurants Facebook pages).
Here’s 10 of them:
Poki District, Gong Cha (bubble tea), and Cheers Cut (fried chicken and seafood) will all be involved with The Spot. The 6,200 square foot food hall is still looking for a few more vendors.
The Spot will open next summer at the Metropolitan, a mixed-use Development near Rockville Town Square.
