Update on Bourbon, Wings, and Beer, the Restaurant Taking Over the Buffalo Wings and Beer Location in Cloverly

We spoke with Bourbon, Wings, and Beer management who told us they hope to open by the end of August. B.W.B. LLC had a hearing with Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) on May 19th at 10am where it was granted its “Class B Beer, Wine, and Liquor License, On Sale Only.” Renovations inside have been ongoing and should soon be complete. While the restaurant hopes to open by the end of August, we were told that it’s just a goal for now.

Back in January, we let you know that Buffalo Wings and Beer had closed in the Cloverly Village Center (15412 New Hamphire Ave). In February we let you know that the restaurant will once again open, as it will be taken over by the owners of Dominic’s Italian Grille in Colesville. The BWB name will remain, but the acronym will have a slightly different meaning as the restaurant will now be named Bourbon, Wings, and Beer.

Not Your Average Joe’s Closes Kentlands Location Today (Wednesday, July 27)

Earlier this month, Not Your Average Joe’s at 245 Kentlands Blvd in Gaithersburg announced it will be closing by July 27. Today will be the last day for the Gaithersburg location of the restaurant. Signage at the restaurant asks customers to visit nearby locations in Bethesda (10400 Old Georgetown Rd) and Reston, VA, and thanks guests for their many years of patronage. ‪ The Massachusetts-based creative casual cuisine concept made its way to Montgomery County in the summer of 2012. The company then opened Bethesda in the summer of 2015 and in Silver Spring in July 2016. The Silver spring announced its permanent closure in July 2020.

El Andariego (Ashton) to Close for a Week in August

El Andariego (5 Olney Sandy Spring Rd), a staple of the Ashton community for over 20 years, has announced that it will close from Monday, August 8th until Sunday, August 14th to provide its staff with a full week of vacation. In announcement made via social media, the restaurant states the following:

“Dear customers of El Andariego Restaurant, we want to notify you that after a long season of hard work of more than 2 years and during a pandemic, we have deemed it good to give a full week of vacation to our respectable staff, who deserve this time off for their unconditional support and honorable service. Due to the lack of more workers, El Andariego Restaurant will be closed from monday, august 8 to sunday, august 14, 2022. Thank you very much for your understanding always. -Consuelo, Jaime, Cristina & Staff.”

Burger King is Coming to Cloverly

Potomac Foods Group has leased the part of the parking lot from the property owner, Safeway, at 15411 New Hampshire Ave to build a new Burger King restaurant (with drive-thru). Demolition of the previous bank building occurred a couple months back and below grade construction started weeks ago. The construction of the upcoming Burger King is expected to take a few months and is likely to open in the first half of 2023.

The process included Safeway applying for a reduction in the number of parking spaces required for the Safeway store. A parking waiver is needed because removing the parking spaces necessary to build the new Burger King will reduce the number of parking spaces for Safeway below the minimum required by the Zoning Ordinance. Safeway filed the amendment requesting to remove the parking easement on the Burger King site and was eventually approved after the initial application was filed a couple years back.

Dunkin’ Nears Completion in Cloverly

Dunkin’ has made significant progress at its latest upcoming location in Cloverly. The store, which is expected to open later this summer, is located at 15509 New Hampshire Ave in the spot that was formerly home to BB&T Bank. This new location will include a drive-thru, which has seemed to be the aim for a lot of the new Dunkin’ locations in the area that are taking over former bank locations. While the outside seems to be nearly complete, there is work left to do inside (photos below).

In late 2020, Inspire Brands announced the completion of its $11.3 billion acquisition of Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins. With the addition of both brands, Inspire encompasses nearly 32,000 restaurants across more than 60 countries generating $26 billion in annual system sales, making it the second-largest restaurant company in the U.S. by both system sales and locations (behind McDonald’s). Inspire’s family of brands includes Arby’s, Baskin-Robbins, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin’, Jimmy John’s, Rusty Taco, and SONIC.

Miller’s Ale House Closing Date Update (September 25)

Last week we spoke with a manager at the restaurant who was able to confirm that Miller’s Ale House will be closing permanently in August, but the date has since been updated to September 25th. The restaurant closes after approximately 10 years at 1471 Rockville Pike in Rockville.

The location was previously home to Hooters before it moved across the Pike (and later closed) and Shakey’s before that. Miller’s Ale House is a Florida-based American restaurant and sports bar chain that was founded in 1988. The restaurant serves steaks, chicken, burgers, salads, seafood, and more. Though most of their locations are in Florida (over 50), there are over 30 other locations open across the east coast. Miller’s Ale House has nearby locations in Hyattsville and Sterling, VA locations.

MoCo Native Brings Authentic Taiwanese Cuisine, Bao Bei, To Rockville for Pick-Up/Delivery

Bao Bei, specializing in authentic Taiwanese cuisine, is now available for pick-up and delivery through a ghost kitchen located at 11910 Parklawn Dr #O in Rockville. The ghost kitchen is owned and operated by Gaithersburg native, Kevin Hsieh.

“The past few years I’ve attended food festivals and private events, but recently opened for pick-up and delivery (UberEats, DoorDash, Grubhub) at a ghost kitchen located in North Bethesda.” said Hsieh. “I’m excited to finally share it with our local community.”

New Dunkin’/Baskin Robbins Location Opens Monday Morning on Shady Grove Rd and 355

Back in January we let you know that the Dunkin Donuts that’s currently located in the recently renovated Rock Grove Center on the corner of 355 and Shady Grove will be relocating. Employees have let us know that the move will officially take place at 4:30am on Monday, July 25. At that time the old location will close and the new location on the back side of the shopping center (the old United Bank location at 16268 Frederick Rd) will open.

The bank had a drive-thru, which will be used by Dunkin’. Baskin Robbins has also been added to this location, so customers can get their frozen treats on the go. The shopping center is currently home to Minerva, the newly opened Qdoba, and more, with a few retail locations still available to lease.

Nearly 3,200 restaurants around the world, including five right here in Montgomery County (listed below), have earned honors for their ambitious wine programs, bolstering their lists and cellars now that dining out has resumed. “After two challenging years, during which many customers took a long hiatus from dining out, restaurants are developing innovative ways to attract diners back, no matter their preferences. Construction Begins at Upcoming Pizza Hut Location in Germantown

Back in December we let you know that Pizza Hut is moving into the Cloppers Mill shopping center in Germantown. It will be located at 18070 Mateny Rd, between Shoppers and Popeyes. After more than 6 months, construction has started at the restaurant. The location is smaller, so it will likely be similar to the upcoming Pizza Hut location that is taking over part of the former GameStop location in Four Corners, which is also a smaller store.

Last September, David Gibbs (CEO of Pizza Hut parent company Yum Brands), told investors, “We closed a lot of the dine-in stores that didn’t belong on the portfolio over the last 18 months in the United States,” according to a transcript on the financial services site Sentieo. “But for the most part, the stores we have in the portfolio now are good, long-term stores.”

Feasty Crab in Derwood Applies for Liquor License

Feasty Crab opened on June 1st at 16811 Crabbs Branch Way (the former location of Red, Hot, & Blue) in Derwood. The seafood restaurant has now applied for a “Class B, Beer, Wine, and Liquor License, On Sale Only.” The restaurant will have its Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) hearing at 9:30am on Thursday, August 4th.

Red, Hot, & Blue closed permanently back in July of 2019 after serving the Derwood area for 30 years. After almost two years of inactivity at the location, Feasty Crab signage was put up in April 2021. The menu features oysters, snow crabs, scallops, crawfish, mussels, and various Cajun sides and desserts. The restaurant is open Sunday-Thursday 11am-9pm and Friday & Saturday 11am-10pm and is currently hiring.
