Vuori has opened its first location in the DMV at 4820 Bethesda Ave, in the space that was previously home to BIBIBOP at Bethesda Row in Bethesda. Vuori makes premium performance apparel inspired by the active Coastal California lifestyle — an integration of fitness, surf, sport, and art.

Vuori draws inspiration from the active California lifestyle—an integration of fitness, yoga, surf and life. “We make products that stand the test of time and hope to inspire others to live healthy, extraordinary lives. Vuori is much more than a brand. It’s a way of life.”

Launched in 2015, Vuori delivers elevated, everyday essentials that blur the lines between fitness and life. An active yogi and surfer, founder Joe Kudla was motivated to create clothing that’s Built to Move in. Styled For Life. Today, Vuori is available at retailers around the globe, and has stores in nearly 30 cities, including Malibu, New York and London.

With products that are designed to last, the Climate Neutral Certified brand is committed to sustainability, with a three-tiered approach: involving the use of recycled and sustainable materials, reducing of plastic waste, and offsetting 100% of carbon emissions. Vuori’s Investment in Happiness drives meaning for every area of the business, a philosophy and active commitment to the shared happiness of its team, customers, community, and the natural environment.

Reformation is now open at 4823 Bethesda Ave in Bethesda Row. Reformation is a “revolutionary lifestyle brand that proves that fashion and sustainability can coexist,” that combines stylish, vintage-inspired designs with sustainable practices. According to the company, “the new location marks Reformation’s first in the state of Maryland and second in the DMV area,  expanding the brand’s global fleet to 41 stores. Like all Reformation stores, the Bethesda Row location incorporates natural and recyclable materials, including sustainable dressing room carpets, vintage furniture, eco-friendly fabrics, hangers made with FSC-certified wood, and reusable deadstock totes. The store will also offset 100% of its electricity usage with renewable energy.

Additionally, the store features six dressing rooms and showcases Reformation’s one-of-a-kind, tech-driven retail concept, which brings the best of its online experience to its physical doors. The result is a more customer-centric shopping experience while remaining, as always, environmentally conscious. Features include:

  • Touchscreens to seamlessly send clothes directly to your dressing room without having to physically carry them

  • Additional touchscreens in each dressing room to order new sizes or styles

  • Fully customizable lighting (“Cool,” “Golden,” and “Sexy Time”) in each room.

Finally, in case you didn’t know, customers can also recycle their pre-loved Reformation goods (Ref Shoes, denim, sweaters, activewear, and outerwear) at any Ref store—including the new Bethesda Row location—through RefRecycling. To participate, customers can drop off their well-worn Reformation pieces and receive credit towards future purchases ($25 for shoes, $20 for outerwear, $15 for denim, $10 for both sweaters and activewear).”

In July 2021 we let you know that New York based Mexicue, which has a nearby location at 1720 14th St NW in DC, would be coming to 4733 Elm St. in Bethesda, the former site of Gusto Farm to Street. The Mexican restaurant opened on Tuesday, June 7th with a menu featuring tacos, bowls, shareable platters, margaritas and weekend brunch. Just over six months later, the restaurant has closed permanently.

In a voicemail for calling customers, Mexicue announces that the Bethesda location closed permanently as of Friday, December 30th. The DC location remains open. Per Mexicue: “It all started with a passion for real, made-from-scratch cooking in a food truck that traversed Manhattan and Brooklyn, embracing the vibrant culture of the city. Today, Mexicue has evolved into a restaurant — and lively bar scene — that does things a little differently than the other guys. A little more boldly, and with a lot more flavor and fun.
