On Friday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich responded to a budget proposal from Council President Natali Fani-González, expressing concern about potential changes to taxes and county programs. Elrich said the proposal could lead to higher property taxes for many homeowners, particularly those with homes valued under $1,090,000, due to the elimination of the Income Tax Offset Credit (ITOC). He also raised concerns about the proposed removal of the Working Families Income Supplement, suggesting it could negatively impact low-income residents despite a proposed income tax reduction for some households. Maryland officials have taken a key state website offline after detecting suspicious activity earlier this month. According to the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT), unusual activity was identified on April 14 involving servers that support the State Department of Assessments and Taxation’s (SDAT) Real Property Search website. In response, the system was taken offline as a precaution while officials investigate.
