Attorney General Anthony G. Brown joined a multistate coalition opposing proposed changes to the U.S. Department of Education’s Civil Rights Data Collection, which would halt data on nonbinary students and remove protections related to gender identity and sex characteristics in bullying and harassment reporting. The coalition argues that the changes would harm vulnerable student populations, undermine enforcement of Title IX, increase administrative burdens on schools, and lead to inaccuracies in national education equity data. A Montgomery County, MD man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of a Morgantown, WV resident last summer. According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, now-20-year-old Arnold Johnson III, of Montgomery Village, was convicted and sentenced in the shooting death of 21-year-old Rashad Malik Alton of Morgantown.

Montgomery County resident and Northwest High School alumnus Gediminas Petraitis has built an impressive career in the NBA, where he is now in his eighth season as a staff official. Over that span, Petraitis has officiated more than 450 regular-season games and 11 playoff matchups, cementing his place among the league’s top referees, according to the National Basketball Referees Association (NBRA).
