Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF) President Doniele Ayres recently shared a message through the MVF website affirming that Montgomery Village is not in the city of Gaithersburg. While Gaithersburg is the nearest major city and provides a convenient point of reference, Montgomery Village has always been its own entity, a census-designated place (CDP) with its own unique history and administrative structure since its development began in 1962.

The sun is setting on one of the Washington DC area’s most unique and beloved dining destinations. The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm has announced it will permanently close its doors on August 31, 2025, bringing an end to a remarkable chapter in local farm-to-table cuisine.

Dolan Uyghur Cuisine, a highly anticipated addition to the Montgomery County dining scene since we shared the news a few weeks back, is now officially open. The restaurant, which specializes in authentic Uyghur dishes from Central Asia, is located at 20-A Maryland Ave in Rockville, within The Square at Rockville, in the space formerly occupied by Kung Fu Kitchen and Peter Chang Rockville.

Corner Bites is now open at 316 N Washington St. in Rockville, in the former location of 168 Seasons Restaurant and Xi’An Gourmet. 168 Seasons took over the location in July 2024 and Xi’An Gourmet/Hot Pot was in the space for approximately five years before that.

The long-awaited vision of a magnetic levitation (maglev) train that would whisk passengers between Washington DC and New York City in a single hour has been officially scrapped. Federal officials recently pulled the plug on the ambitious project, citing a host of “insurmountable” challenges that ultimately doomed the high-speed rail plan.
