U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Baltimore seized 695 pounds of the psychedelic drug DMT on June 11, 2025, from shipments originating in Mexico and destined for Harford County, Maryland. In response to a heat emergency alert, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation is providing free bottled water on Ride On buses to help keep passengers safe and hydrated during a week of dangerously high temperatures.

Lawrence Marshall IV, 21, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court to second-degree murder and use of a handgun in the fatal 2023 shooting of his mother’s boyfriend, Cederic Warner, during a dispute in Silver Spring, and faces up to 60 years in prison. (more…)
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has reported that 62 white-tailed deer tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) in 2024. This neurological disease affects deer, elk, and moose. In Montgomery County, three deer were found to have the disease, contributing to the ongoing management and monitoring efforts in the region.

The Montgomery County Council voted to reappoint Mitra Pedoeem to the Montgomery County Planning Board at its June 24 meeting. Pedoeem, who was first appointed in 2023 to fill a partial term, and has been serving as Vice Chair under Planning Board Chair Artie Harris, will now serve a four-year term on the Planning Board.
