VisArts (155 Gibbs St. in Rockville Town Square), a hub for artistic exploration and social impact that has been bringing people together through shared creative experiences since 1987, has announced it has selected its new CEO after a national search. Lisa Mary Ryder will be taking on the role starting May 27th. She will be taking over for the recently retired Alice Nappy, who was with VisArts for 15 years. Heller An Shapiro, who previously led a board development project for VisArts, is guiding programming until Ryder starts her new role. The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring will remain open and fully operational, despite the announcement that Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS) intends to close following this school year.

Our Lady of Good Counsel (17301 Old Vic Blvd. in Olney) announced in a letter to the community in Tuesday that former MCPS principal Edward Owusu has been named the high school’s next principal. Owusu served as the principal of Clarksburg High School from 2017 until his retirement from MCPS on January 1st, 2024. The full announcement can be seen below:

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8pm today. Per the National Weather Service, “Expect wind gusts greater than 40 mph. Wind gusts of this magnitude will make driving high profile vehicles difficult, and cause loose outdoor objects to be blown around. Secure loose outdoor objects to prevent property damage.” This evening there have been several incidents reported by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS), though not all may be attributed to the wind. Montgomery Parks received $5 million in capital funding for five park projects from the state of Maryland during the 2025 legislative session. The department will use the funding to renovate parks and playgrounds in various legislative districts in Montgomery County.

The roar of the crowd, the clash of titans, the Cold War-era villainy– these are the images that likely spring to mind when the name Nikolai Volkoff is mentioned. For wrestling fans of a certain era, Volkoff, often paired with the likes of the Iron Sheik, was a formidable and heat-generating force, a symbol of Soviet strength in the squared circle that went head to head with Hulk Hogan in 1985. But beyond the bombastic persona and the signature rendition of the Soviet national anthem, there was another side to Josip Nikolai Peruzović, a man who found a quiet and fulfilling life in Maryland, far removed from the wrestling ring (per Steve Stasiak of Book Pro Wrestlers).
