Montgomery County Public Schools says classes will begin on time Monday, March 16, as the district closely monitors forecasts for potentially severe weather expected later in the afternoon.
Forecasters are warning that a potentially significant severe weather event could impact the parts of Maryland and Virginia (including all of Montgomery County) Monday afternoon, raising questions about whether some school systems may adjust schedules or cancel after-school activities.

Pulte Home Companies, LLC is seeking to redevelop Olney Golf Park with a 235-townhome community, according to the applicant’s initial pre-hearing statement filed in connection with a proposed zoning change for the 22-plus-acre property at 3414 Emory Church Road in Olney. Give A Hoot Comedy Club in Gaithersburg has surpassed a major milestone, raising more than $100,000 for nonprofit organizations since opening its doors in 2023. The club, located at 16143 Shady Grove Rd., opened on January 20, 2023 as Montgomery County’s first full-time comedy club. From the beginning, the venue was built around a simple mission known as “Comedy For the Community,” using live entertainment to raise money and awareness for local nonprofit organizations.
DC Water said emergency repairs to the Potomac Interceptor have been completed after 55 days of continuous work, allowing wastewater flow to return to the pipe and bypass pumps to be shut off. Officials said the change caused water levels in the C & O Canal to drop quickly as diverted wastewater drained out, and crews have now begun environmental cleanup efforts that include flushing the canal with freshwater, clearing debris, removing muck, and excavating contaminated soil.
