Robert E. Peary High School was located at 13300 Arctic Ave. in Aspen Hill, MD. It opened in the 1960 and closed in 1984 primarily due to declining enrollment. A Facebook group with over 4,000 members keeps its memories alive.
Purple Line crews have begun installing light rail tracks, reconstructing sidewalks and completing stormwater drainage and utility crossings across the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street. This work will require a temporary full closure of the Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street intersection to vehicular traffic.

On October 15, 2024, what began as a routine school dismissal at Rolling Terrace Elementary School quickly turned into a harrowing moment that showcased extraordinary courage. As students were leaving for the day, a young child broke away from a parent and bolted toward the bus lane just as a bus was pulling out. In that split second, Jefferson Reyes, a fifth-grade member of the school’s safety patrol, reacted instantly– leaping into action to pull the child from harm’s way and likely saving a life.
