The driverless tech company is located at 22521 Gateway Center Drive in Clarksburg. The name Forterra combines “for” as in “directed to” or “belonging to,” with “terra,” from Latin meaning “earth” or “solid ground.” In addition, its implied qualities include “forte” from Latin fortem or “strong” – an ability to withstand a great force or pressure. And RR – the double Rs pay homage to the company’s prior name – “Robotic Research” – and its 20+ year history. In 2021, the company announced a $228 million round of funding. The Lyft driver who allegedly terminated a ride and stopped in the middle of the southbound lane on Coastal Highway following a disagreement, demanding all passengers exit the vehicle and leading to the death of Montgomery County man Sydney Wolf, has been formally indicted. The Lyft driver was identified in court documents as Laquise Leon.
Congratulations to Team Robo Mania! A group of 6th graders from Clarksburg including Anya Naga, Vihaan Shah, Saanvi Pandrapragada, Om Pawar, Kyra Parikh, and Arjun Prakash formed a First Lego League team this year and won the Championship Award in the qualifier round.
