June 2022 Construction Update of The Fairchild Apartments (Near IHOP, Señor Tequilas, etc.) in Germantown

Construction continues at the Fairchild Property on Century Blvd in Germantown in the area surrounded by what is mainly comprised of one-story pad-site restaurant uses (IHOP, Red Robin, Señor Tequilas), and surface parking lots.

Our featured image, taken today, shows the progress made at the upcoming apartment building. The Fairchild Apartments will feature 6 stories of multifamily residential when completed. The 209,185 sf building will consist of 212 units and 3 levels of parking. The building will also feature amenities such as a Club Room with kitchen, a fitness and yoga room, a business center, a card room, and a courtyard with a pool.

Hiker Falls Approximately 100ft Down Embankment in Germantown; Suffers Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

CSX railroad traffic is stopped between Gaithersburg and Germantown due to fire department activity that involves extrication of an injured hiker who fell 100 ft down an embankment/cliff. Several trains are stopped in both directions as of 4:06pm on Sunday afternoon.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and EMS are with the injured hiker who has suffered non life-threatening injuries. The fall occurred in the area of Peach Crest Drive and Waring Station Rd. in Germantown and extrication will occur soon.

MoCo Then & Now: Germantown Train Station

Burned down in the 1970s, Germantown Train Station was rebuilt to its 19th century splendor, the vision of a famous Baltimore architect.

Today, Germantown Train Station is used as a waiting room for commuters and has a coffee shop, Alafia Crossing, operated by Bota King. More than 800 passengers board the trains that leave the MARC (Maryland Area Regional Commuter) train in Germantown every weekday morning, a stop along the Brunswick Line that travels from West Virginia to Washington, DC.CSX Transportation owns this line of rail. But the tracks used to be part of a Baltimore & Ohio network dating back to the 19^thcentury.

County Executive Marc Elrich will present the awards at the ceremonies that are part of the County’s 25th annual celebration of Juneteenth. The awards honor distinguished individuals who are living legends in Montgomery County and have helped shape the cultural heritage of the African American community.

The 2022 Annual African American Living Legend Awards will be presented to five individuals who have dedicated their lives to service, advocacy and selfless acts of kindness to their community.

Montgomery County to Host 25th Juneteenth Free Celebration This Saturday, June 18, with Events at BlackRock Center in Germantown

Germantown Community Recreation Center to Close this Summer for Roof Replacement

All programming scheduled to take place at the Center throughout the closure will take place at alternate locations, with the exception of early voting. The Center will remain open as an Early Voting location from July 7 – 14.

Detectives Investigate Theft from Vehicle and Fraud in Germantown

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, the victim reported that in the overnight hours of May 13, an unknown suspect broke the rear passenger window of their vehicle, parked in the12500 block of Great Park Circle, and stole their wallet. The suspect then attempted to use the victim’s bank card at an ATM. The withdrawals were declined.

Anyone with information regarding this suspect is asked to call the 5th District Patrol Investigations Unit at 240-773-6263.

After the COVID-19 pandemic caused cancellations in 2020 and 2021, Independence Day fireworks and celebrations are back in a big way this year. Below is a list of all the MoCo fireworks displays that have been announced:

Montgomery County to Host Fireworks Shows in Germantown and Kensington

Montgomery County has announced that they will be hosting two fireworks shows this year. One at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington on July 2, and another at the South Germantown Recreation Park on July 4. Additional firework displays already announced in Montgomery County include the City of Gaithersburg’s Summerfest on July 2 at Bohrer Park, Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration in King Farm, and the annual Town of Poolesville/Upper Montgomery County Fire Department fireworks display.
