The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has charged Adelaida Consuelo Zacarias Chacon, of Germantown, and Reyna Gomez Lopez, of Philadelphia, with first-degree conspiracy to commit murder after an investigation revealed that Chacon allegedly paid Gomez Lopez to arrange a murder-for-hire plot against her ex-boyfriend.

Good Fortune Cafe, which has been serving the area since 1994 (according to its website), closed in August at 237 Kentlands Place. At the time an employee shared that they would be returning later in the year in the space that has been home to Happy Uncle in Germantown’s Clopper’s Mill shopping center (18022 Mateny Rd.) for more than 20 years. Today, it was confirmed by Happy Uncle that Good Fortune would be taking over early next year.

On Tuesday, Judge Lydia K. Griggsby sentenced Darnell Palmer, 23, Germantown, Maryland, to 84 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Earlier this month, we reported that the Big Lots at 20926 Frederick Rd in the Milestone Shopping Center, Germantown, will be permanently closing. The store recently began its closing sale and is now offering discounts of up to 25% on select items, according to a representative (5%-25% overall, depending on the items). The discounts are expected to increase as the store approaches its anticipated closure, likely right after Christmas. A specific date is not yet available.
