Acting Inspector General Kevin B. Muhlendorf announced the launch of the WMATA Office of Inspector General (OIG) Whistleblower Award Program. Effective February 1, 2024, the WMATA OIG’s Whistleblower Award Program will begin evaluating information provided by whistleblowers for potential awards of up to $10,000. Information on eligibility requirements, directions on submitting a tip or complaint, and answers to frequently asked questions can be found at www.wmataoig.gov.

Metro is advising customers of weekend construction for Maryland’s MTA Purple Line project, which will require the closure of four Red Line stations between Takoma and Glenmont. On Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 27-28, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Takoma and Glenmont. The Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton, and Glenmont stations will be closed.

For the first time, Metro customers can get a personalized report of their Metro ridership for an entire year.
Per Montgomery County: “As part of Metro’s ongoing commitment to expand access and affordability to public transit, the Senior SmarTrip program will join all other Metro reduced fare programs in offering SmarTrip cards at no additional cost. Metro will begin to offer Senior SmarTrip cards at no cost to customers aged 65 and older on Tuesday, Jan. 16. (more…)
Metro is reminding customers to plan ahead for scheduled track and infrastructure work that will affect rail service on multiple lines this weekend.
Starting today, Metro is inviting the public to participate in the” Fill-A-Bus” campaign to drive out hunger and food insecurities in the region. The Capital Area Food Bank says 1 in 3 people in the region face hunger.
