Better Bus is Metro’s initiative to improve regional bus service. On June 29, 2025, Metro will launch its new bus network. Automatic Train Operation (ATO) is coming to the Green and Yellow lines on Friday, May 23 after rigorous internal training and testing and concurrence from the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission.

Bus customers can now plan out future bus trips for June 29 and beyond when the new Metrobus network launches. Metro has updated its Trip Planner at wmata.com/tripplanner with the updated routes, schedules, and new route names.
On Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Medical Center and Grosvenor on the Red Line due to track work. Crews will make repairs to aerial structures between the two stations. Service Information below, per WMATA:
Montgomery Parks and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Purple Line completed a new fish passage project at a stream underpass of Piney Branch Road in the Long Branch community, helping to restore habitat for migratory fish and supporting local aquatic communities.
Work begins on the Blue Line July 5 and on the Green Line Aug. 2. This year, Metro’s summer construction is shorter than prior years with two months of construction in two different parts of the region.
On Saturday April 19 and Sunday April 20, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Rhode Island Ave. and Takoma on the Red Line. The Brookland station will be closed and there will be no Red Line train service at Fort Totten.
