The WMATA Board of Directors approved a $4.957 billion capital and operating budget aimed toward improving service without raising fares. “The approved budget continues to fund Metro at levels where service is safe, frequent and reliable. In recent years, Metro has seen increased ridership thanks to those tenets and expects that trend to continue with additional Metrorail service and a revamped bus network coming in June.”

Metro is reminding customers of a new systemwide banning policy that took effect this week. The purpose of the banning policy is to prohibit a person who commits a sex crime or a sex-related crime, anyone who violates Metro’s Passenger Conduct Rule, or a person who commits any assault on a Metro employee, contractor, or customer from entering or using the Metro system, properties, or facilities for more than 24 hours.

Per the news release distributed on Tuesday, May 26: “Governor Wes Moore and Metro today announced the selection of Hines, a global real estate investment manager, to transform a 13.9 acre site in North Bethesda into a transit-accessible hub for housing and economic development in Montgomery County. Today, Metro announced the selection of Hines, the global real estate investment manager, as the developer for the 13.9-acre North Bethesda joint development site adjacent to the rail station. The firm has been operating in the DC metro area for more than 40 years and owns and operates $90.1 billion of assets across property types.

Better Bus is Metro’s initiative to improve regional bus service. On June 29, 2025, Metro will launch its new bus network.
