MCPD

Montgomery County Police are conducting a death investigation after responding to an incident in the 800 block of University Boulevard E. in Silver Spring.  According to MCPD, “On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Montgomery County Police and Fire Rescue Personnel responded to the location for the report of a possible assault. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from trauma to his body. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C., will conduct an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of the death.    This is an active and ongoing investigation.” University Blvd East was closed for several hours due to the investigation but has since reopened. We will post an update if additional information becomes available. 


Bethesda

Beginning Friday, June 9th, 2023 at 10:00pm, United Crane and Rigging will perform a mobile crane operation on Old Georgetown Road at 7607 Old Georgetown Road from Wisconsin Avenue to Woodmont Avenue. Weather and progress permitting, all work should be complete no later than 3PM on Sunday June 11th, 2023. In case of inclement weather, the job will push to a Saturday, June 10th start. During this time, there will be a full closure on Old Georgetown Road, Crews will be onsite to assist with safely detouring traffic.

During the overnight and early morning hours of each operation, they will keep noise levels as low as possible. Traffic Engineering Services will direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic during all work hours.


Crime

Montgomery County Police responded to a fatal shooting that took place in the 19500 block of Gunners Branch Road around 8pm on Friday night.  According to MCPD, “when 5th District officers arrived, they found several shell casings in the parking lot of the apartment complex and located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds behind one of the apartment buildings.

Officers provided aide until Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded. The 57-year-old male was pronounced dead on scene.  Witnesses stated that they saw several people drive away from the location and there are no suspects in custody at this time. It is too early in the investigation to provide suspect or vehicle descriptions.”

WMATA

Red Line customers will enjoy more frequent weekday service beginning Monday, June 12, and that’s just the start of improvements rolling out for rail and bus customers throughout the month of June.  Beginning Monday, Red Line trains will operate every 6 minutes until 9:30 p.m. on weekdays, an improvement from every 8 minutes during off-peak daytime hours. On weekends, Red Line trains will continue operating every 8 minutes all day, and every 10 minutes after 9:30 p.m. seven days a week.

“Ridership is bouncing back, and Your Metro continues to deliver service improvements to meet the travel demands of the region,” said Metro General Manger and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke. “Ridership continues to set records on rail and bus, and we’re excited to deliver service improvements that will save our customers time and money at all times, every day of the week.”


MCFRS

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire in the 2500blk of Glenallan Avenue, between Georgia Avenue and Layhill Road, at the Atelier Apartments around 6pm on Friday, May 9.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was located on the exterior of the building and there was little/minor extension. Approximately 45 firefighters responded to the scene and there were no injuries reported. The building was evacuated as a precautionary measure.


Bethesda

Bowlero Corp. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Lucky Strike Entertainment, LLC, the upscale bowling company with 14 locations across nine states. Bowlero owns Bowl America on Clopper Road in Gaithersburg and Bowlero Rockville on Shady Grove Rd in Gaithersburg. The acquisition adds the Lucky Strike brand, which has a Montgomery County location in Bethesda’s Montgomery Mall, and all other locations to Bowlero Corp.’s portfolio of bowling centers in North America, furthering its position as a leader in bowling entertainment. Bowlero will acquire the Lucky Strike business in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $90 million. 20-person company founded in 1954, signs lease with St. John Properties, Inc. for 15,000 square feet of space at 4724 Arcadia Drive in Arcadia Business Park

Steel Products, Inc., a woman-owned specialty contracting firm founded in 1954, has signed a lease with St. John Properties, Inc. for 15,000 square feet of flex/R&D space at Arcadia Business Park. Earlier this year, the company relocated its corporate offices from Rockville to Frederick, Maryland. Approximately 20 employees moved to 4724 Arcadia Drive, a single-story building containing 48,120 square feet of flex/R&D space.
