Bethesda

Eater DC recently looked at places around DC where people can get crabs to enjoy at home. While there are several places in MoCo to get your crabs, two places in MoCo have made Eater DC’s list:

Bethesda Crab House (4958 Bethesda Ave, Bethesda, MD 20814): “Bethesda Crab House was opened in 1961 by Henry Vechery. Ever since it has been a local tradition. We offer oysters, shrimp, crabcakes, Alaskan King and Snow Crab legs, but our specialty is the Maryland Blue Crab.”


MDLottery

This year, the Maryland Lottery has sold one $1 million winning Powerball ticket, 28 third-tier winning tickets worth $50,000 to $150,000 and four third-tier Double Play tickets of $50,000 and $50,007. In 2022, the state sold two $2 million second-tier winning tickets, seven $1 million second-tier winning tickets, 92 third-tier winning tickets and five Double Play third-tier winning tickets.

Lottery officials encourage all winners to sign the backs of their tickets immediately and put them in a safe location. They get 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.


Maryland

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller today joined with officials from the Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland State Police and members of the transportation construction community to mark National Work Zone Awareness Week. To support worker safety, the governor announced the creation of a Maryland Work Zone Safety Work Group. The group, which will be chaired by Lt. Governor Miller, will study increased protection for highway workers. Governor Moore also proclaimed April 19 as “Go Orange and Highway Worker Appreciation Day.”

“As we build an efficient and equitable transportation network, all Marylanders need to do their part to make sure the men and women doing the work are safe,” said Gov. Moore. “We must prioritize safety over speed, which is why I’m announcing the formation of a highway work zone safety work group to develop tangible solutions to protect workers, drivers and passengers.”


Event

Join Kaiser Permanente for Healthy at the Harbor, a free community health and wellness event taking place Saturday, June 6, from 11 am to 4 pm at National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Bring your family and friends for free full day of fun, fitness, and preventive care along the waterfront.

Throughout the day, Kaiser Permanente nurses and physicians will offer no-cost health screenings, alongside a health and wellness expo focused on preventive care education. A lively Kids’ Zone will keep children active and entertained with spin-art bikes, face painting, balloon art, games, and more.


Maryland

Per the Maryland State Police: Maryland State Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping that allegedly occurred early this evening in Frederick County. The victim is a 16-year-old girl. She was uninjured in the incident. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 50 years old with a pale complexion and a possible speech impediment. He is 5’7”- 5’9” with a medium to heavy frame. He is bald with brown eyes, a mustache and a mole on the right side of his face. He was driving a small black vehicle, possibly a minivan, at the time of the alleged incident.

At 5:15 p.m. today, the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen with the report of an attempted kidnapping.  The citizen was later identified as the victim’s mother.


Takoma Park

Takoma Park police is searching for Jasmine Nicholls-Davis, an 18-year-old woman who has been missing since Wednesday, April 12th at approximately 8:20am. She was last seen at the Unit Block of University Blvd in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Jasmine Nicholls-Davis was last seen wearing a black hoodie with white lettering, black and white pajama pants, and black Converse sneakers. If you have any information regarding her whereabouts, please contact Takoma Park Police at 301-270-1100 or Text tip411.


Restaurants

Nosh Grill House, located at 12 N Washington Street in Rockville, is holding its soft opening this week. The restaurant, which offers contemporary Chinese-style bbq, is the neighbor and sister restaurant of East Grill Karaoke and East Dumpling House. Along with all-you-can-eat bbq, Nosh Grill House offers karaoke. The soft opening began on Monday, April 17th and runs Monday-Thursday from 5pm until 1am and Friday-Sunday from 5pm-2am. Olney

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Police- 4th District Patrol Investigation Unit (PIU) are investigating a theft from auto that occurred on Thursday, April 6, 2023, in the 4000 block of Gelding Lane in Olney. Detectives have released surveillance video of the two suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.  The initial investigation has revealed that two unknown suspects forced entry into the victim’s vehicle. The suspects stole credit cards which were used to purchase prepaid debit cards at a retail store in Washington D.C. The suspects arrived and left in a small gray car, possibly a ride share, driven by another unknown individual.

The first suspect is described as a thin White male, wearing a mask, gray sweatpants and a black sweatshirt.  The second suspect is described as an unknown race female with black hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, red shorts and carrying a bag.  This remains an active and ongoing investigation.


Gaithersburg

Per the City of Gaithersburg: WalletHub has named Gaithersburg the #1 Most Diverse City in America with a total score of 73.09. The City also ranked #1 in the Small City category, which includes communities with populations under 100,000. The study compared more than 500 of the largest cities in the U.S. and ranked them based on socioeconomic, cultural, economic, household, and religious diversity.

A previous WalletHub ranking from February, 2023 had Gaithersburg as the second most diverse small city and the third most culturally diverse city overall based on three key indicators of ethnic diversity, including ethnicity and race, language, and birthplace.


WMATA

 

Metro will add automated cameras to buses to keep unauthorized vehicles out of bus-only lanes and bus stop zones under an agreement with the District of Columbia and recommended for approval by the Metro Board of Directors Finance Committee today. The new initiative, called Clear Lanes, is modeled after similar programs, including San Francisco and New York City, and will be the first to use automated camera technology to enforce bus stop zones in addition to bus-only lanes.
