Governor Hogan issued a statement after receiving a positive result on his PCR Covid test following this morning’s positive rapid test result.

With the Omicron variant becoming increasingly dominant, I want to again urge Marylanders who haven’t yet to go out and get your booster shot as soon as possible.


Beyond MoCo

In a letter to customers, Phillips Seafood announced the permanent closure of Phillips Crab House in Ocean City.

The seafood company announced that it decided to sell the property that was home to Phillips Crab House at 2004 Philadelphia Avenue between 20th and 21st Street in Ocean City.


Education

A notification was sent home today notifying the Wootton High School community of 42 positive cases from Friday evening, over the weekend, and today. In the letter, the school stated that it would be pausing the JV and Varsity Girls Basketball and Varsity Boys Basketball programs.

State’s Attorney

After a nine-day trial and nine hours of deliberations, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable Judge David Lease, a jury has found defendant Gregory Jones, 28, of Martinsburg, WV, guilty of first-degree murder for the deaths of Ashley Dickinson and Joshua Frazier in Burtonsville, MD. He faces two potential life sentences plus an additional 40 years. Sentencing is scheduled for March 25, 2022. 

Assistant State’s Attorneys Marybeth Ayers and James Dietrich prosecuted this case.


Bethesda

Update on 12/27 to reflect the correct address of the upcoming Madewell location. The press release initially included an incorrect address that is the current location of Lululemon. Lululemon is not closing.

The 3,080-square-foot retail store located at 4839 Bethesda Avenue, the former home of Nando’s Peri-Peri, and will feature its signature women and men’s denim and all the tenets of a fantastic wardrobe.

Per the State of Maryland:

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced the first round of awardees for Project Restore, a $25 million economic recovery initiative that provides financial incentives for small businesses and commercial developers to revitalize vacant retail and commercial space. A total of 144 businesses in 23 jurisdictions will receive $3.6 million in rental subsidies and $7.2 million in business operations grants over the next two years, totaling $10.8 million in support.
