Over the weekend USA TODAY reported that home-goods retailer Bed Bath & Beyond revealed 63 stores that will be closing by the end of 2020. The list included three Maryland locations, including the store located in Gaithersburg Square.
Bed Bath & Beyond has two other MoCo locations, in Germantown and Rockville, that will remain open for now. Earlier this summer the company revealed that it will close 200 of its stores in the next two years, so this may just be the first round of closures.
Starbucks in Rio to Close Permanently

Flanagan’s Harp & Fiddle Announces it’ll Close After 35 Years
Stephen and Jenny Nugent, the owners of Flanagan’s Harp & Fiddle, told ABC7 that they’ll be closing permanently due to the restrictions placed on local businesses in response to the COVID pandemic.
Little Beet Table is Closed Until 2021
The restaurant, located in The Collection at Chevy Chase (5471 Wisconsin Ave.), opened last November.
Lake Needwood Boats has closed for the 2020 season, according to a release from Montgomery Parks.
Black Hill Boats will remains open for the remainder of the boating season.
Mandalay Restaurant & Cafe will remain in Downtown Silver Spring until mid-2021, according to a Facebook post from earlier this week.
In March 2019, the restaurant told us they’d be closing soon but didn’t have an exact date.
JennyCakes Bakery will close permanently in September 19th, according to an update released earlier this morning.
The bakery, located at 10419 Armory Ave. in Kensington, has been in business for over 8 years.
Buena Vida in Silver Spring closing, TTT in its place
Mexican sit-down restaurant Buena Vida in downtown Silver Spring is closing. The restaurant will be taken over by Tacos, Tortas, and Tequilla, a fast-casual eatery located in the same building. Both restaurants are owned by Street Guys Hospitality.
Khyber Kitchen has closed permanently in Downtown Silver Spring, according to Source of the Spring.
The restaurant served a fusion of Halal Indian, Pakistani, and Middle Eastern cuisine. It opened in May of 2019.
Weis will close one of its two Gaithersburg locations (16567 S Frederick Ave. in the Walnut Hill shopping center) around Labor Day, a store representative told us this morning.
The Walnut Hill shopping center has seen the grocery store change names relatively frequently through the years, though current plans for the location are unknown.
