Gaithersburg

After over 30 years Chuck E. Cheese has decided to close its Gaithersburg location. Earlier this year the Wall Street Journal reported that the company was $1 billion in debt, but the company has avoided filing for bankruptcy so far. We are told the Rockville and Takoma Park locations will remain open for carry-out and will be re-opening their arcades this coming Monday.

It appears as though Bagel City in Rockville may have closed.  As first reported by ABC7’s Kevin Lewis, the light up sign with the restaurant’s name has been taken down, there is a “For Lease” sign in the window, and the restaurant seems to have been emptied of all tables and equipment.

Bagel City, located in the Pike Center shopping center off of Rockville Pike, had been in operation in that location for almost 40 years.

PR at Partners hair salon announced that their Pike & Rose location is closing permanently. In an email that was sent out to their clients, they stated that they are closing due to the “health and financial crisis” that COVID-19 has created.

They plan to keep their Reston VA and Mazza Gallerie (Friendship Heights) locations open.

The Beach at Pike & Rose has a new addition– a sign stating that there are plans for it to be demolished. This may come as a surprise to many, but the intention was for The Beach to be temporary.  It was constructed right before Summer of 2018 and was only supposed to last until Labor Day of that year.  Due to popular demand, the beach was kept open much longer.

We are told that even though The Beach is disappearing, something equally fun and entertaining will replace it. We don’t have any official word on its replacement just yet.

UPDATE: The White Flint Lord & Taylor was included in the list of Lord & Taylor stores Forbes released of locations that will be closing in the coming months.

Reuters reports that Lord & Taylor “plans to liquidate inventory in its 38 department stores once restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus are lifted as it braces for a bankruptcy process from which it does not expect to emerge.”
