Was Abraham Lincoln Ever in Silver Spring?

Did Abraham Lincoln spend time at Silver Spring Mansion with the Blairs?

Lincoln and the Blairs were close. The Blairs already had a strong family friendship with the Lincolns in Kentucky. Francis Preston Blair Sr. had advised U.S. presidents before Lincoln, which means that Lincoln and Blair Sr. would most likely have had at least a close work relationship. The two families were clearly political allies since Lincoln made Montgomery Blair, Blair Sr.’s son, the administration’s postmaster general.

Former MCPS Student Publishes Book She Wrote While in Elementary School

Afshan Mizrahi is a published children’s author from Montgomery County. The book she published, Fairyland Horror, was written while she attended Mill Creek Towne Elementary School, an MCPS school in Derwood.

While in 5th grade, Afshan had a creative writing assignment where she needed to write a short story and draw pictures. It was then that Fairyland Horror came to life.

Life-long Marylander Ed Reed made history this past election day by becoming the first Black man to be elected to the position of Commissioner in the Town of Poolesville. Reed secured 1,516 votes in an at-large race.

Who Am I? MoCo Edition

This Montgomery County native is an accomplished musician, a New York Times Best Selling author, and Twitch streamer. Born in Rockville, Maryland, he grew up in the West Deer Park neighborhood in Gaithersburg. He also worked at Joe’s Crab Shack in Rio and performed there a few times when he started off.

Originally under the name Psychological, he started performing professionally in 2009. As to why he called himself that, he said, “ I just loved this word because it was about the mind and I knew that’s what I wanted my music to consist of; something that really challenges the mind.” Years later, he would rise to international fame and receive 2 Grammy nominations.

Update on Two Hands Korean Corn Dogs at Wheaton Mall

We first let you know that Two Hands Seoul Fresh Corn Dogs would be coming to Westfield Wheaton Mall back in Novermber, 2020. We are now being told the restaurant is expected to be open in February of 2022.

The Korean Corn Dog restaurant will be taking over the former Tevana space located in the mall’s upper level.  Two Hands currently has locations in Centerville, VA and Houston, TX.
