Rockville

Per MCPD: On Sunday, January 15, 2023, at approximately 7:23 a.m., officers responded to the area of Muncaster Mill Road and Sycamore Lane for the report of a collision between two vehicles.  The preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of a black Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Muncaster Mill Road when he crossed the center line and struck a silver Ford Escape that was traveling eastbound on Muncaster Mill Road.

 The adult male driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the decedent will be released following proper notification of next of kin.   The driver and the front passenger of the Ford were transported to an area hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.


Germantown

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire in the 13200blk of Bayberry Drive in Germantown on Friday morning . According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire originated in the kitchen of the end-of-row townhouse and was caused by “combustibles too close to heat source.” Damage is estimated to be $100K ($80k structure, $20k contents).  Firefighters reported lots of storage and other materials in the home. One adult was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries (minor burns) and two people have been displaced.

Traffic

North and southbound Route 355 are closed between Halpine Road and Congressional Plaza in Rockville as the result of fire rescue activity, according to Montgomery County Police. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and to expect significant delays.

Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue services reports that a vehicle was on fire and had burning fuel running into the roadway. The fire has been extinguished and there are no injuries reported. We will post an update when additional information becomes available. Video below:

At approximately 1:24 p.m., officers observed two men get into the Equinox. After the suspects drove off, 4D officers attempted a traffic stop and the driver of the stolen car struck a civilian vehicle while attempting to escape. A short pursuit was initiated, and the suspects struck a second civilian vehicle at Georgia Ave. and Norbeck Rd.


Germantown

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a townhouse fire on the 13300 block of Demetrias Way (off Wisteria Dr) in Germantown on Sunday morning around 3:30am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, damage is estimated to be $300,000 and several families have been displaced. One person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. We will post an update when additional information becomes available.

Aspen Hill

Around 50 Montgomery County firefighters responded to a single-family house fire in the 13300blk of Georgia Ave, near Regina Dr, in Aspen Hill on Thursday. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire originated in the basement of the home, which appeared to be abandoned  (however power was still connected). The fire was reported by a passerby who reported smoke coming from home. There were no injuries reported.

Germantown

Montgomery County Police responded to reports of shots fired in Germantown around 12:20AM on Thursday. According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, multiple residents called 911 reporting shots fired on Crystal Rock Drive, near Waters Landing Drive and Waters Landing Local Park. MCP Officers found several shell casings in the area. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.
