Montgomery County satire website The Takoma Torch donated $1,250 to the Olney Boys and Girls Club, according to social media posts by both of them from earlier today and yesterday.

The donation put an end to the “Olney Fans” saga that lasted a few days and provided the county with material for lighthearted banter a couple weeks back.

For a couple months we have seen job listings for an &Pizza location in Olney, but haven’t been able to get any further information. This evening we were able to confirm that the customizable pizza place will be coming to the Fair Hill shopping center in Olney. Though we don’t have an exact location at the moment, it appears as though it will take over a location that is currently home to an existing business.

&pizza was founded by Michael Lastoria and Steve Salis (Ted’s Bulletin, Federalist Pig, and Ensemble) in 2012 with their first location on H Street in D.C. The growing chain now has over 36 locations across the east coast including MoCo locations in Bethesda, Gaithersburg (Crown), Germantown, Pike & Rose, Silver Spring and a second Gaithersburg location coming soon.

Back in March we let you know that Olney would be getting a team in the Cal Ripken League. Since then, we’ve shared that the team was looking for a name and shared a Google form that would allow readers to chime in with potential names for the new team.

This led to satire website, Takoma Torch, writing an article about a website for Montgomery County’s newest baseball team “OlneyFans”– a play on the online subscription service OnlyFans, whose content primarily focuses on pornographic material.

Back in July it was announced that the Montgomery County Green Bank and Sandy Spring Bank are teaming up to provide flexible financing to help the Olney Ale House re-open. We spoke with a representative from Montgomery County Green Bank over the weekend who let us know that the construction is moving along well and that construction could take around 3-5 months, but that is just an estimate. They said they want to make sure to keep the county up to date on potential activities around the reopening and will provide additional information soon.

kitchen fire at the Olney Ale House caused the restaurant to temporarily shut down in 2019 and COVID-19 only compounded the issues for the restaurant. Click here to read our original article about the Olney Ale House reopening.

Olney has come in at number 7 in the Top 11 Family-Friendly Suburbs Where Parents Will Actually Want To Live list by Realtor.com. To come up with their list of suburbs, Realtor.com started by looking at the nation’s 11 largest cities and then moved to looking at the surrounding suburbs in each metro area with at least 10,000 people.

They took into account the percentage of children living in each city, school rankings, and family-friendly businesses (including day care centers). “To make sure these were places parents would want to live, too, there had to be plenty of restaurants, bars, and things to do, as well as a reasonable commute (most are under 40 minutes) for when they do have to go to the office.”
