Shady Grove Burger King Reopens; Now Includes HUGE PIZZA from Ripieno’s and Jo Jo’s Express

The Burger King located at 16004 Shady Grove Rd has reopened after being closed for renovations since the start of 2021. Along with Burger King comes Ripieno’s of Ocean City and Jo Jo’s Express, which has a location in Salisbury. All three restaurants have separate menus and cashiers and the setup of the restaurant is similar to that off a food hall/food court with a common dining area.

Ripieno’s features its famous 28” wood-fire pizza, calzones, and subs. JoJo’s Express features “American style” dishes like fried chicken, steak, and fried seafood. The Burger King has the standard Burger King menu and is available from the drive-thru (the other two restaurants are not available via drive-thru). All three restaurants also share a salad bar. Galito’s Flame-Grilled Chicken Opens First U.S. Location in Shady Grove Center

Galito’s Flame-Grilled Chicken is now open in the spot that was formerly home to Nirvana Reflexology Spa at 15918 Shady Grove Road in the Shady Grove Center (shopping center that is home to The Melting Pot). The restaurant offers chicken with “bold African flavors” and has been compared to international fast-casual restaurant Nando’s Peri Peri.

Galito’s currently operates in over 16 countries, with more than 150 stores– across Africa into Malaysia, Pakistan, the UAE, India and Canada. This is the South African chain’s first restaurant in the United States.

Takoma Park: San Pancho, a San Fran Mission-Style Burrito Shop, to Open This Fall

Cielo Rojo, a family owned “fine-casual” Mexican restaurant, opened in the heart of Takoma Park at the start of 2019. Owners David Perez and Carolina McCandless first met in 2012 at Gracias Madre, a vegan Mexican restaurant in San Francisco, and now they’re bringing their version of San Fransisco Mission-style burritos to Takoma Park.

San Pancho plans to open this fall in the space that is currently home to Cielo Rojo (7056 Carroll Ave), while Cielo Rojo moves down the street to a larger space. A San Fransisco Mission-style burrito is a type of burrito that first became popular during the 1960s in the Mission District of San Francisco, California. It is distinguished from other burritos by its large size and inclusion of rice and other ingredients, and became popular when major chains like Chipotle, Qdoba, and more, began offering their versions across the county.

Per the instagram post, tattoo artist and Takoma Park native, Britteny Etienne, specializes in fine line tattooing and single needlework with the majority of her work consisting of realism and precise lettering. First launched as a home-based business during the pandemic, the Bibi Abelle Studios has expanded to its new location in the heart of Takoma Park. Rockville: New Pizzeria That Specializes in “Indian Style” Pizza Coming Soon

Updated to reflect that it has taken over the former site of Pizza Palace.

Apna Pizza is coming to 14050 Travilah Rd in Rockville, the former site of Pizza Palace. The new pizzeria is currently under construction and representatives from the restaurant tell us that they hope to be open in mid-to-late April.

Olney: Scratch Kitchen & Bistro Sets Opening Date

Scratch Kitchen & Bistro will be taking over the location that was formerly home to CB Acai and House of Fortune at 18062 Georgia Avenue in Olney. The new restaurant has announced on Instagram that it plans to hold its grand opening on Sunday, May 15th. Temporary signage has been up in the windows for about two weeks or so, announcing the restaurant’s May opening.

The restaurant is described as a family-owned bistro and cafe. It will serve breakfast and lunch classics made from locally sourced ingredients. CB Acai announced in November 2021 that it would be closing the Olney storefront and continue to operate its catering business and food truck. The acai bowl and smoothie spot first opened in July of 2020.

Gaithersburg: Ikura Asian Sushi Opening This Week

Ikura Asian Sushi at 18212 Flower Hill Way (Flower Hill Shopping Center) in Gaithersburg will have its grand opening this Friday, March 25.  It replaces Hunan Best, which was in that location for the last 30 years.

Ikura Asian Sushi features Japanese themed cuisine and is owned by Micky Zheng, who is also the owner of Micky’s Chinese Restaurant at 18204 Contour Rd in Gaithersburg.

Silver Spring: J. Hollinger’s Prepares to Open in Early April

J. Hollinger’s is preparing for an early April opening in Silver Spring, according to the restaurant’s website. It will be located in the Lee Plaza building at 8601 Georgia Avenue, in the space that was previously home to Ray’s the Classics (later known as just the Classics) from 1998 until 2018.

The restaurant is being opened by Jerry Hollinger and Mike Ellis. Hollinger currently has two other Montgomery County restaurants- The Daily Dish on Grubb Road and The Dish & Dram on Kensington Pkwy in Kensington.
