County Council passes order for amended Phase 2 reopening plans
This past Tuesday, August 4, the Montgomery County Council unanimously approved an amended executive order for additional Phase 2 reopening plans. It is effective Wednesday, August 5.
County Executive Marc Elrich will not announce Phase Three of MoCo’s reopening plan until about a week after the July 4 weekend, he said on Wednesday. Phase Three allows limited openings of concerts and theaters and decreased distancing requirements for gyms, places of worship, and other indoor gatherings.
Elrich and MoCo Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles are delaying Phase Three to give officials time to analyze data and check for emerging hotspots of cases following the holiday weekend.
The Westfield malls in Montgomery County reopened this past Monday, June 23. Here are some more details on what Wheaton Mall specifically looks like:
Even though it’s the first week, many people are already frequenting the mall. All stores must follow a set of safety guidelines designated by both Westfield and the government, which includes mandating customers to wear masks, prohibiting outside food and drink, and disinfecting high-contact areas frequently. These guidelines are posted on signs throughout the mall.
