Normandie Farm Restaurant at 10710 Falls Rd. announced today that the current owners will be retiring and the restaurant will be temporarily closing on June 30. New ownership will be taking over and are expected to reopen the restaurant in late summer.

Normandie Farm was founded in 1931 by Marjory Hendricks in the midst of the Depression. It is one of a handful of restaurants that are still in existence from that era.


Montgomery Village

Moe’s Southwest Grill at 19222 Montgomery Village Ave in the Montgomery Village Shopping Center will hold it’s grand opening today, February 3, at 11:30am.

Moe’s is taking over the former space occupied by the MV Animal Hospital. The hospital has moved right down the road to 19243 Watkins Mill Rd.


Downtown Silver Spring

Updated to reflect opening timeframe

Last April we let you know that IHOP’s new concept, Flip’d by IHOP, would be taking over the old Asian Bistro Cafe location at 8537 Georgia Avenue between Panera and Red Lobster, according to the PetersonCos website.


Gaithersburg

MiyaJi Kebab & Rumali Rolls will be taking over 674 Quince Orchard Road, the location that was home to Pho Eatery in Gaithersburg’s Quince Orchard Plaza, according to Federal Realty’s tenant roster for Quince Orchard Plaza.

Pho Eatery and neighboring restaurant Urban Crawfish closed permanently in September of 2021. Both restaurants opened in 2016.

The food and dining site Eater serves as a local restaurant guide, offering reviews as well as news about the restaurant industry. Eater’s DC site recently released a list of “15 Standout Thai Restaurants Around DC” touting the diverse selection of Thai restaurants that show off the variety of dishes and traditions the Southeast Asian nation has to offer.

This past summer we let you know that El Mercat Bar De Tapas will be taking over the spot that was most recently home to Gumbo Ya Ya, at 101 Gibbs Street Unit C in Rockville Town Square.

Now we know the restaurant will hold a special friends & family dinner where guests can purchase $75 tickets to the event.

Update: Pupuseria Mama Emilia is now open 

Pupuseria Mama Emilia at 785-H Rockville Pike in the Ritchie Center is now open. The new restaurant takes over the location that was formerly home to Dokiya Ramen and Pho 95. Pupuseria Mama Emilia comes to you from the owners of Pupuseria La Familiar, which has locations in Beltsville, College Park, Falls Church (Virginia), and Wheaton in MoCo and boast of Mama Emilia’s family recipe. The menu at the existing restaurants consists of a variety of beverages, Pupusas, soups, and a multitude of Salvadoran dishes.
