The City of Rockville is considering implementing a Pair Parental Leave Policy to provide leave to eligible employees following the birth of an employee’s child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption or foster care. Paid Leave would run concurrently with leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), as applicable.

This was discussed on the January 31st, 2022 Mayor and Council meeting. Discussion on the matter will continue. Per City Code, unless the Mayor and Council instruct staff to modify the proposed policy, the policy will go into effect 55 days from the distribution of the revised PPM to the Mayor and Council.

The mayor and council of the City of Rockville will discuss the potential annexation of three different areas into the city- Shady Grove Metro Station, Shady Grove Hospital, and properties along E Gude Dr – during the city council meeting on Monday, February 7th.

A possible timeline from introduction of a resolution for annexation to its effective date, is estimated to be about nine to twelve months, depending on the size of the property. Larger properties have additional requirements with respect to public notice, which can extend the time frame by 1-2 months.

Derwood

Back in April we let you know that Feasty Crab would be taking over the old Red, Hot, & Blue location at 16811 Crabbs Branch Way in Derwood/Redland/Rockville.

We spoke with a representative at the restaurant back in October who told us that it would be open “in about a month” pending inspections. Things have taken a little longer than expected, but only the final inspection is left and the restaurant hopes to open this month.
