Yesterday we let you know that Loft is closing its Congressional Plaza location in Rockville. We now have confirmation that a J.Crew Factory storee will be its replacement at 1637 Rockville Pike.

“We’re excited to welcome yet another favorite brand to Congressional Plaza. J.Crew will join a robust retail line-up including most recent additions Athleta and Lands’ End. J.Crew is expected to open in summer 2022, and will be located between Ulta Beauty and Appalachian Springs.”

This past summer we let you know that El Mercat Bar De Tapas would be taking over the spot that was most recently home to Gumbo Ya Ya, at 101 Gibbs Street Unit C in Rockville Town Square.

The restaurant held a ticketed preview dinner event this weekend, and will be opening for dinner service to the public tomorrow (Monday, January 23) starting at 5pm, with lunch and brunch arriving in the coming weeks.


Rockville

The Rockville City Police Department responded to a car fire in the driveway of a home on the 1300 block of Gladstone Dr this morning around 6:30am. According to RCPD, the fire appears to have been purposely set on fire.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue is conducting the follow up investigation.


Rockville

Per RCPD:

On January 20, 2022 around 8:00 p.m. RCPD officers were patrolling in the 700 block of Monroe Street and conducted a traffic stop. During the course of the stop, officers located a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle. Officers also located a second loaded semi-automatic handgun in the waistband of the passenger’s pants. An inspection of both handguns revealed them to be “ghost guns” with no serial numbers and equipped with extended magazines. Ghost guns are unserialized and untraceable firearms that can be bought online as a kit and assembled by the purchaser.


Rockville

Many questions remain unanswered after a teen suddenly died while walking at Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus Sunday night.

Around 10:30PM Sunday Night, members of the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, and Montgomery County Police responded to Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus (51 Mannakee Street). Responders found 1 teen critically injured and 1 EMS Provider was also injured on scene.


Gaithersburg

Earlier this week we let you know that construction started at Lapu Lapu, the sister restaurant of popular Rockville/North Bethesda/Kensington restaurant Kuya Ja’s Lechon Belly.

The restaurant recently announced a pop-up that’ll allow you to sample the breakfast sandwiches that’ll be served at the upcoming restaurant. It will take place this Sunday, January 23 from 11am until 3pm at Kuya Ja’s (5268-H Nicholson Lane) for takeout or delivery, as dine-in is not currently being offered.

Mr. Smoothie, located at 33 Maryland Ave G in Rockville Town Square, has closed permanently according to Google. The phone number has also been disconnected.

Mr. Smoothie, a smoothie and frozen yogurt bar chain, has most of its locations in New York with additional locations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
