A Silver Spring woman is $50,000 richer after purchasing a Family Feud scratch-off at Kemp Mill Beer, Wine & Deli at 1339 Lamberton Drive in Silver Spring.  The lucky winner claimed her prize this week after forgetting where she had hid the winning ticket in her home several months back. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:

Talk about feeling relieved! A 41-year-old Montgomery County player thought she was running out of time to claim a $50,000 prize on the FAMILY FEUD® scratch-off game. Even worse, she couldn’t remember where she hid the lucky instant ticket many months ago.

But everything turned out fine, with Srijana Wosti celebrating her Lottery luck in the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters this week.

The Silver Spring resident really enjoys playing the scratch-off game and has done so since it arrived at Lottery retailers in April. She is the mother of a new baby and, around June, was out for a stroll in the park when she felt lucky. Srijana stopped inside the Kemp Mill Beer, Wine & Deli at 1339 Lamberton Drive in Silver Spring and purchased one $5 FAMILY FEUD scratch-off.

“I like to watch the show on television,” said Srijana, “and, I like that Steve Harvey.” The lucky lady told Lottery officials she played the game in the store and thought it was only a $50 win. However, when she scanned it later using the MD Lottery app, it showed a $50,000 win.
“I kept scanning it over and over,” said the big winner. “I was so happy.”

Being a married full-time mom of a 2-year-old and an infant keeps Srijana very busy. After sharing news of her good fortune with her family, she hid her lucky instant ticket in a suitcase and forgot about it. This month, when she remembered about cashing it, the loyal player panicked because she thought the last date to claim her prize was fast approaching. And, to top it all off, she couldn’t find the scratch-off! After searching the house for it, she ultimately rediscovered it in her suitcase.

“I was so relieved to find it,” she said, sighing, “and to know I wasn’t too late.” Srijana told Lottery officials that she plans to apply her winnings toward family bills.

The management of her lucky Lottery retailer, Kemp Mill Beer, Wine & Deli, can enjoy some fun from her win, too. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Montgomery County store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

The FAMILY FEUD scratch-off is still packed with big prizes, including three $50,000 top prizes, two $5,000 second-tier prizes and more than 300,000 others ranging from $5 to $1,000.

A Silver Spring resident won $50,000 playing Pick 5 at the 7-Eleven located at 14430 Layhill Road in Silver Spring. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
A Maryland Lottery enthusiast from Silver Spring has a few sets of lucky numbers he likes to play in the Pick 3, 4 and 5 games, and one of those sets hit for $50,000 in the Nov. 12 midday Pick 5 drawing. The 56-year-old played a straight bet for $1 on the digits 83779 for the win after having a slight change of heart. Typically, he plays it as 38779 but, for this drawing, he transposed the first two digits.

“I listen to my instinct,” he said of the change. In this case, his instinct was spot on. The Montgomery County resident says he will continue playing, always picking his own numbers and taking gut feelings and instincts into account.
“I need a big win!” he said on Nov. 29 while claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. With his prize, he plans to pay off his car loan and settle some bills. A celebration also is in the offing, but nothing is planned yet. Sharing in his good fortune is 7-Eleven #20096 at 14430 Layhill Road in Silver Spring. The store receives a bonus of $500 from the Lottery, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling a $50,000-winning ticket in the game.

Per the Maryland Lottery: He buys Powerball tickets frequently, a Virginia truck driver told lottery officials. Maryland Lottery officials, that is! It turns out that a $50,000 portion of the jackpot he’d been seeking in both states was waiting for him on the Maryland side of the Potomac River. “Like everybody else, I had been buying Powerball tickets back home as the jackpot kept getting bigger,” said the 35-year-old. The resident of Lorton, Virginia, purchased his $50,000-winning ticket back in October, more than a week before the Powerball jackpot reached its record-breaking total of $2.04 billion.

He bought a quick-pick ticket for 10 drawings from Oct. 22-Nov. 12. “It just happened that work took me into Maryland that day. A right place, right time kind of thing.” The date, Oct. 22, was that lucky time, and 7-Eleven #22921 at 8101 Fenton Street in Silver Spring was the lucky place. The truck driver’s habit is to check tickets once every two or three weeks. His lucky drawing took place on Oct. 22. “When I scanned this one, I was shocked, didn’t breathe for long enough to make me almost choke,” he told Lottery officials. “I calmed down pretty quick, though. I wanted to keep my cool there in the store. It was crowded.”The winner and his wife are pleased with their encounter with Powerball good fortune in Maryland. “I never expected to hit that jackpot, never expected to win much at all. So, $50,000 is a huge surprise and such a blessing.” They were discussing the purchase of a new car and now can use the prize to speed up their timetable.

Per the Maryland Lottery: A Takoma Park man who purchased a Powerball ticket in the historic Nov. 7 drawing came up $50,004 richer, missing the $2.04 billion jackpot win by only one number. The 70-year-old came into Maryland Lottery headquarters with a great big smile and left still thinking about how he would spend his prize. He was one of eight Marylanders who won third-tier prizes in the drawing, which also generated a $1 million prize for another player in the state.

His lucky Lottery retailer was Check Cash Depot #004 located at 8476 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. There’s still time to get tickets for the next Powerball drawing on Wednesday, Nov. 30. The estimated jackpot annuity is $65 million with an estimated cash value of $33.7 million.

A Silver Spring couple purchased a winning scratch-off lottery ticket worth $100,000 earlier this month from the Exxon gas station at 8384 Colesville Road in Silver Spring. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
A couple from Silver Spring picked up a $100,000 prize on the $30 $100,000 Extreme Cash scratch-off game and they plan to put the money toward the purchase of a house.

While claiming the prize Nov. 21 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, the two said they had not made any plans for a celebration yet because the win still didn’t feel real. Both are regular players and have won smaller prizes before, including a few $800 hits on Pick 5, but nothing like their $100,000 top-prize scratch-off score. Even so, asked about whether they would continue playing, the husband said, “Of course. I want big money!” His wife added, “He’s looking for millions!”

On the market since Sept. 21, 2020, $100,000 Extreme Cash remains a popular game. It logs in at the No. 19 spot on the Maryland Lottery Top 40 Scratch-Offs list, despite more than 91 percent of all available tickets being sold. Even so, 12 of the game’s initial 64 top prizes at the $100,000 level remain unclaimed.

The couple bought the hot ticket at the Colesville Road Exxon gas station at 8384 Colesville Road in Silver Spring. The business receives a bonus of $1,000 for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

A Takoma Park man is $50,000 richer after purchasing a winning scratch-off game at the 7-Eleven located at 8101 Fenton Street in Silver Spring. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
An enthusiastic Maryland Lottery player from Takoma Park has won the occasional three- and four-digit prizes, but was taken aback when he checked a scratch-off and realized it was worth $50,000. The 61-year-old player, describing his experience on Nov. 18 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, said he “almost fainted.”

“I thought it was a mistake,” he said. However, it was the real thing: a top-prize win on the $5 Power Spot Multiplier game. His previous personal-best Lottery scores were in the $250 to $1,000 range. The Montgomery County man plans to share his winnings with his wife and adult children, coordinate a celebration dinner and pay some bills with his prize. After that, he plans to keep playing Lottery games, focusing, as always, on scratch-offs. He says they have “more luck.”

Sharing in the winner’s scratch-off fun is 7-Eleven #22921 at 8101 Fenton Street in Silver Spring. The Montgomery County store management earns a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

A Silver Spring man is $50,000 richer after purchasing a winning lottery ticket for the November 5 Powerball drawing at the Upper Marlboro Xtra Fuel at 15009 Marlboro Pike in Prince George’s County. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:

Charlie Ayoub is a Powerball fan who plays the game two to three times a week. His loyalty and persistence paid off on Nov. 5, when the Montgomery County resident won $50,000 with a $2 quick-pick ticket.“I have been playing both Powerball and Mega Millions for about 15 to 20 years. I like to play the games with the bigger prizes,” Charlie explained.

The Silver Spring man is a district manager whose job requires him to travel around the region. He estimated that he visits and plays at over 30 Lottery retailers throughout the state. The 58-year-old recently stopped by a local gas station to check his Powerball ticket and learned he won a third-tier prize in the Nov. 5 drawing.

“When I first scanned the ticket, it said $50,000. I didn’t believe it. I thought it was closer to $50,” he said. After multiple scans, the happy player realized Lottery luck had paid him a visit. The winner plans to invest some of his prize, donate some funds to his church and pay off some bills. Charlie is also the father of an 18-year-old and will put some of the windfall toward college expenses.

He bought his lucky ticket at Upper Marlboro Xtra Fuel at 15009 Marlboro Pike. The retailer is located in Upper Marlboro in Prince George’s County.

The cafe opened its first location at the Traville Gateway shopping center in late 2016. Black Lion Café sources its coffee from three regions of Ethiopia known for producing some of the best tasting coffee beans in the world. Keffa, the region of Ethiopia that gave the name ‘coffee’ to the bean, Yergacheffe, and Harrar.

About Black Lion CafeEthiopia is considered to be the birthplace of coffee. In Ethiopia, over 12 million people are involved in the cultivation and picking of coffee. Coffee ceremony plays an important role in the Ethiopian society. Coming from five generations of Ethiopian coffee growers, we grew up running around family’s coffee plantation in Harar, which is located in the Eastern highlands of Ethiopia.
