Saturday Night Update on Sunday Storm

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for 1pm Sunday until 1am Monday.

According to the latest maps, released by the National Weather Service just before 10pm, most of MoCo is looking at 2-3 inches of snow before the brief changeover to sleet/freezing rain and then rain.

Snow is expected to start falling between 1-3pm and continue for a few hours before changing over to a wintry mix and eventually all rain.

The NWS has backed off on the higher ice amounts, but the cold ground will still likely make for a messy situation later Sunday afternoon into the evening and night.

Our advice would be to stay in if you can after 12pm tomorrow.

Per the Winter Weather Advisory:

* WHAT…Mixed precipitation. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE…Portions of The District of Columbia, central, north central, northeast and northern Maryland and northern Virginia.

* WHEN…From 1 PM Sunday to 1 AM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
