With almost all Election Day precincts reporting, below you will see the results of the Non-partisan Montgomery Founty Board of Education races as of 10:00am on Wednesday, July 20:

District 1: Grace Rivera Oven (31,926, 44.89%) has a big lead with 48 of 53 Election Day precincts reporting in District 1. Esther Wells (19,824, 27.87%) is in second place, Alexander Fahmy (10,074, 14.16%) is in third, and Jay Guan (9,302, 13.08%) comes in fourth.


Virginia

On Tuesday, former Washington Commander safety Deshazor Everett plead guilty to misdemeanor reckless driving in the collision that resulted in the death of his girlfriend, Olivia Peters. The crash occurred on December 23, 2021 on Gum Spring Road near Ticonderoga Road in Loudoun County, VA. According to the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, Everett was driving his 2010 Nissan GT-R more than double the speed limit at the time of the incident. Peters was taken to StoneSprings Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Peters, 29, was a 2010 graduate of Good Counsel in Olney and a native of Rockville, MD, where she lived until moving to Las Vegas, NV.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday night on Gum Spring Road.


MoCo Government

With almost all precincts reporting Early Voting and Election Day results (Mail-In/Provisional Ballot results not yet available), you’ll see the results below for each district in the races for County Council as of 9:00am on Wednesday. Results for the At-Large County Council primary can be seen here.

District 1: Andrew Friedson has officially won the District 1 Democratic primary (11,069 votes, 100%). He ran unopposed.


MoCo Government

Wednesday, July 20 (6:35pm) Update:

With 246 of 258 election day precincts reporting, David Blair (28,961, 39.63%)  holds a slight lead over incumbent Marc Elrich (27,770, 38.00%) in the Montgomery County Executive Democratic primary. Hans Riemer is currently in third (14,911, 20.40%) and Peter James in fourth (1,445, 1.98%). Reardon Sullivan (6,840, 63.58%) leads the Republican primary over Shelly Skolnick (4,949, 36.42%).


MoCo Government

With 246 of 258 election day precincts reporting as of 7:15am on Wednesday morning, incumbents Evan Glass (42,409, 18.29%), Will Jawando (40,159, 17.32%), and Gabe Albornoz (35,937, 15.5%) are at the top of the Democratic primary for the four available At-Large County Council seats. The other incumbent, Tom Hucker, is currently on the outside looking in with (24,345, 10.5%), trailing former Gaithersburg City Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles (31,016, 13.37%), and Scott Goldberg (25,475, 10.98%), who are currently in 4th and 5th place in the primary. Brandy Brooks (18,82, 8.12%) and Dana Gassaway (13,749, 5.93%) round out the candidates on the Democratic side.

The Republican primary is a lot closer, though all three candidates will make it through, with Christopher Fiotes (8,101, 33.8%) leading Dwight Patel (8,020, 33.52%) and Lenard Lieber (7,804, 32.68%).


Takoma Park

The Library, Computer Center, and Community Center will undergo a major remodel and expansion project in Fall 2022 (video rendering available below). In preparation for the project, staff housed in the Library and Computer Center must be removed from the building no later than August 31,2022. Staff in the Recreation Department offices and game room must be removed from the building by approximately January or February of 2023. A definitive date will be provided no later than 1 month prior to the actual move date. Staff and building contents from the Library and Recreation Department will be moving to a space at 7505 New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912.

The Takoma Park Maryland Library (Library) and Computer Center are housed in the Takoma Park Community Center building. The campus address is 101 Philadelphia Avenue Takoma Park, MD 20912. The Library is connected to the Community Center building by an indoor walkway. The Library and Computer Center occupy a single story and approximately 12,000 square feet. The Recreation Department is adjacent to the Computer Center at 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912 and is approximately 2200 square feet.


Ashton

WSSC has issued a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Advisory for the Triadelphia Reservoir, warning to avoid direct contact with water. Drinking water is not affected. The Triadelphia Reservoir is located along the Patuxent River, near the Olney/Brookeville area, between Montgomery and Howard Counties. Their full message can be seen below:

“WSSC Water has detected high concentrations of blue-green algae in the Triadelphia Reservoir, which can cause serious adverse health effects if contacted. The reservoir, located along the Patuxent River in Montgomery and Howard counties, serves as a drinking water source for WSSC Water and as a recreational area for hiking, fishing and boating.

Wednesday, July 20 (7:30am) Update: 

With 246 of 258 election day precincts reporting, David Blair (28,059, 39.51%)  holds a slight lead over incumbent Marc Elrich (26,997, 38.01%) in the Montgomery County Executive Democratic primary. Hans Riemer is currently in third (14,574, 20.52%) and Peter James in fourth (1,070, 1.96%).


MDLottery

“I was very happy and excited,” the lucky winner said. The construction employee doesn’t currently have any plans for his prize but has shared the great news with his immediate family members.

The Powerball jackpot has continued to roll and is set for an estimated $101 million for the Wednesday, July 20 drawing. The estimated cash option is $58.7 million.
