Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating suspects sought in a fatal hit and run resulting that occurred on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the intersection of 18th Street and Florida Avenue, Northwest.
The decedent has been identified as 33 year-old Rakesh Patel, of Silver Spring, MD. Dr. Patel was a Medical Intensive Care Unit fellow at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
“We know you don’t like it when we “disappear” so that’s why we’re giving you this heads up. My last day will be March 23, so I’m going to help get you through the winter,” Sue said during the initial announcement of her retirement.

Mr. James Allrich has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision. He has been principal at Argyle Middle School in Silver Spring since 2015. This prestigious award, given by MCAAP, is presented annually to an administrator or supervisor who exemplifies outstanding leadership and accomplishments in the areas of purposeful leadership, instructional or system wide leadership, human resources development, resource management, interpersonal skills, professional involvement, and community and stakeholder involvement. Mr. Allrich has spent the majority of his educational career in MCPS. Over the last 21 years he has served as a high school math teacher, a staff development teacher and administrator. In 2015 he was appointed Principal of Argyle Middle School – a whole-school magnet middle school with over 1000 students and a staff of over 100.
Tacos Don Perez started off as a small, family-run catering business back in 2017. It continued that way until may 2020, when it became a once-a-week home-based pop-up when the family was left without work due to Covid-19. The pop-up quickly gained support from the local community, as Tacos Don Perez sold out in a matter of hours every single week. With the support of their customers, the family was able to buy and custom build their own food truck, which is now located in the Glenmont shopping center.
The truck opened 6 days a week starting in April 2021 and was featured in a Washington Post article on birria tacos across the DMV. Now the family is preparing to open what they’re touting as “the biggest food trailer in Montgomery County.” On Saturday, March 19th they will be hosting a celebration that will include games, giveaways, and music.

Ukranian born Boris Levonenko, owner of King Farm Auto Services at 15563 Frederick Rd in Rockville, has been hard at work collecting supplies to send to his war-torn home country.
According to WTOP, Levonenko has already shipped over 100 boxes of medical supplies, which he has been driving up to Delaware to ship through a Ukrainian Express Shipping Company.
Yesterday we let you know that Hulu Skewer House would be moving in to 1488-B Rockville Pike, the former location of Mi Rancho and On The Border before that, next to Yekta. The upcoming restaurant has its hearing with Alcohol Beverage Services for a beer, wine, and liquor license at 9:30am on March 17.
We now have additional information on the restaurant. Hulu Skewer House will offer a variety of skewers, appetizers, and Chinese cuisine. They will also have karaoke available on the second floor, which is currently being constructed.
The Maryland House voted on Thursday to prohibit the act of declawing cats, unless deemed necessary for therapeutic purposes.
An identical bill recently passed the Maryland Senate and would next be sent to Governor Larry Hogan to be signed into law.
