Blake High School athletic director Jared Fribush announced the hiring of Bryon Marshall as the new variety football head coach at the school. He has been the Junior variety head coach since 2017 and will be taking over for DeShawn Anderson, who stepped down following the fall season.

Potomac

Dan Binstock is a lifelong MoCo resident. The Potomac dad is now also a viral TikTok sensation, earning over 340K followers and nearly 30 million views in less than a month with his ability to hear a song just once and recreate it to near perfection on the piano.

Binstock was born and raised in Potomac. He started playing piano at the age of 5, when he realized he had an ear for music. After taking lessons growing up and continuing to play while he was a student at Wootton High School, where he was known for his piano-playing ability, he went in a different direction with his career, earning his law degree and currently owning and operating a company that recruits lawyers.


MoCo Police

Per Montgomery County Police: A 17-year-old Magruder High School student is in custody following a shooting at the school on Friday, January 21, 2022.

At approximately 12:53 p.m., high school security became aware of a situation in one of the school bathrooms. A male Magruder High School student had been shot and 911 was called at approximately 12:57 p.m.


Beyond MoCo

Lil’ Cakes & Creamery at 488 N. Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg will be opening up a second location in Urbana, MD.

The new store will be located at 3272 Bennett Creek Avenue, Unit A, part of the brand new shopping center that is already home to Chipotle, Dominos, and Jersey Mike’s.


MoCo Police

Montgomery County Police held a press conference at approximately 5:40pm regarding the shooting that took place at Magruder High School in Derwood earlier this afternoon. Speaking at the press conference were Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones and MCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight.

 


MCPS

The following letter was sent to Magruder High School students and families by Magruder Principal Leroy C. Evans regarding the shooting that occurred  at the school this afternoon.

Montgomery County Police are conducting an investigation into the serious incident that occurred at our school today. Police have confirmed that a student has suffered an injury resulting from a gunshot on our campus. The student was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Our thoughts are with the student, and we wish him a speedy recovery. The police have taken a suspect into custody. The police have also assessed that the school is now safe, and we are preparing to dismiss students.


Maryland

With Americans quitting their jobs at record rates during the so-called “Great Resignation,” personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2022’s States With the Highest Job Resignation Rates.

WalletHub ranked the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on how frequently people are leaving their places of employment. Maryland came in 46th, which gives our state the 6th lowest resignation rate in the country., with a 2.3% resignation rate in both the last month and the last 12 months.


Rockville

Per RCPD:

On January 20, 2022 around 8:00 p.m. RCPD officers were patrolling in the 700 block of Monroe Street and conducted a traffic stop. During the course of the stop, officers located a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle. Officers also located a second loaded semi-automatic handgun in the waistband of the passenger’s pants. An inspection of both handguns revealed them to be “ghost guns” with no serial numbers and equipped with extended magazines. Ghost guns are unserialized and untraceable firearms that can be bought online as a kit and assembled by the purchaser.

Montgomery County Police are investigating  a possible shooting that occurred at Col. Zadok Magruder High School at 5939 Muncaster Mill Rd in Derwood around 1pm on Friday, according to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh.
