Replacement of the Casey Community Center Pedestrian Bridge Is Complete

Per the City of Gaithersburg: The replacement of the Casey Community Center Pedestrian Bridge by the City construction contractor is complete. The City’s Public Works Operation Division has installed a new asphalt sidewalk in place of the existing sidewalk, which leads from Edgewood Drive, across the bridge, to the Casey Community Center. The bridge is now open to pedestrian traffic linking the Rosemont Community to the Casey Community Center and linking the Rosedale Community to the Rosemont Elementary School.

During routine inspection of small span & pedestrian bridges throughout the City, a consultant noted safety concerns due to severe section loss at the bearing end locations of both steel beams on the pedestrian bridge behind Casey Community Center. The bridge was temporarily closed for safety reasons and a consultant was hired to do design for repair/replacement of the structure. The existing deck, railing, steel beams, and concrete foundations will be removed & replaced with a new structure.
