Arrest Warrant Obtained for Suspect Who Intentionally Struck Three People With Vehicle in Rockville

Three people were hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Rockville and police have released information on the suspect.

According to the Rockville Police Department, “On December 14, 2023 at approximately 2:36 p.m. Rockville City Police responded to 199 East Montgomery Avenue for the report of multiple people struck by a dark colored SUV, the striking vehicle did not remain on scene. Officers located three victims, a female age 79, and two males, ages 22 and 18, who were transported to local hospitals with various injuries. The 22 year-old has been released from the hospital, the others remain in serious condition.

Our investigation has led to an arrest warrant for the driver of the striking vehicle, Walter Giovanni Marquez-Aviles, age 44, of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Mr. Marquez-Aviles is charged with three (3) counts of Attempted Murder and three (3) counts of First- Degree Assault.

The Rockville City Police is actively searching for Walter Giovanni Marquez-Aviles. Callers may choose to remain anonymous.  There is no threat to the community and the investigation into this incident remains ongoing.”
