Courtesy Compass Atelier

Beginning April 1, The Compass Atelier will no longer be just a single classroom– it will become a Compass Art Center. The Compass Atelier shared an announced on social media that it will be moving into 10335 Kensington Parkway in Kensington.

The new space will consist of four art classrooms featuring the “Master Artist Program & a slew of weekly classes & art workshops. It will also feature two Compass Galleries, 2D & 3D art shows every month including juried shows, local artists, and nationally acclaimed visiting artists, and nearly 20 art studios for painters, sculptors, and craft artists. A message below was shared by The Compass Atelier founder and director, Glen Kessler:

“TEN YEARS AGO I founded The Compass Atelier with the goal of creating a better way to learn how to become a professional artist. In that time we have built a tremendous reputation for efficiency and effectiveness at doing just that. Many of our graduates (some with little to no prior painting experience) are now making their livings as artists, teachers, and creatives. We could not be more thrilled.

And now after a DECADE OF SUCCESS, it is time to evolve to better meet the changing needs of our past, present, and future artists. So it gives me tremendous joy to announce that on April 1, 2024 we will be DRAMATICALLY EXPANDING OUR PROGRAMMING to offer:

  • more class options
  • exhibition opportunities for local artists
  • a thriving art studio community
  • a hub of creative positive energy in our community

In just 2 months we will be moving into a massive 12,000 square-foot 3-story art center of our own at 10335 Kensington Pkwy in Kensington, MD. The newly branded COMPASS ART CENTER will be home to:

  • 4 Compass Atelier classrooms
  • 2 Compass Galleries,
  • nearly 20 Compass Artist Studios

Painters, sculptors, and craft artists will find within our walls a place to make and learn how to make their dreams come true. And the Kensington community and DMV at-large will find in us a thriving hub of creativity at the heart of an incredible and vibrant new arts district in Kensington. In the coming weeks you will hear about all the new and exciting programming coming to COMPASS ART CENTER. So if you are:

  • a student looking to take an art class
  • an artist looking for studio space in a vibrant new art center
  • a patron looking to find that next amazing piece for your collection
  • or just someone looking to be reminded that there is real talent and creativity in our world…

…don’t be afraid to reach out to us at [email protected] and visit us soon at CompassArtCenter.com.

Thank you to everyone who has played a role in our success over the past decade, and cheers to all of you who will be a part of the magic that is coming in the years ahead.”
