Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) held a ceremony in honor of the renovation of their 1938 barn in Boyds.
and DAVISConstruction (DAVIS) hosted a closing-in ceremony and tour at the site of their ongoing barn renovation on Schaeffer Road in Boyds (video below).
Warrior Canine Connection’s national headquarters is its Healing Quarters facility in Boyds, Maryland. The Healing Quarters is located on approximately 80 acres within the bucolic setting of Seneca Creek State Park here in Montgomery County. The site, a former dairy farm that supplied milk for troops in the National Capital Region during World War II, provides ample training, exercise and play space for WCC dogs. The park-like setting allows WCC staff, clients, and volunteers to work in a beautiful natural setting, with multiple fenced yards, a large grassy coral where dogs are exercised and trained, and a dedicated space for whelping and puppy care.
Wednesday’s event was attended by WCC staff, Veterans, construction team members, and of course, dogs. DAVIS Vice President Matthew Weirich gave remarks at the ceremony, and project team members led attendees through the future space.
WCC is a Veteran-serving non-profit that is taking a novel approach to treatment of post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. The new facility will include a training facility, wellness center, headquarters and welcome center. This expansion project will provide WCC with the ability to serve thousands more wounded Veterans and their families, grow their service dog placements, provide lodging for Veterans who work with service dogs in advance of placement, and offer other forms of integrative medicine.
