Montgomery County to Host Virtual Forum on ‘Journey to Recovery: Exploring Pathways to Healing from Mental Health and Substance Use’

The Montgomery County Alcohol & Other Drug Addiction Advisory Council (AODAAC) will host a virtual forum on Thursday, May 9.

Per the news release: Montgomery County’s Alcohol and Other Drug Addiction Advisory Council will host its 2024 virtual spring forum from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 9. The free event, Journey to Recovery: Exploring Pathways to Healing from Mental Health and Substance Use, will include a focus on different pathways to healing from mental health and substance use disorders.  There will be sessions for adults and concurrent sessions planned by Montgomery County’s Youth Ambassador Program members.

Youth will participate in youth-led sessions, exploring ways to access support for mental health or substance use. Youth will then rejoin the adults in the main Zoom room so all attendees can ask questions during a live question and answer panel. The evening will conclude with links to various resources for mental health and substance use prevention, intervention and treatment.

“Discussions and conversations are essential parts of the solution to reduce youth substance misuse and address mental health concerns,” said County Executive Marc Elrich.  “This annual forum is a good opportunity for teens and adults to learn about the resources and support available and to offer their experiences and suggestions. I urge residents to take advantage of the free virtual event.”

Montgomery County Public School students who attend the full two-hour event will receive student service-learning hours. *

The forum is hosted by AODAAC, the Mental Health Advisory Council and the Citizen’s Review Panel for Children.

Registration is required and attendees will receive the Zoom link after registering. Register here.

Anyone with accessibility needs who wants to participate in the event (e.g., an interpreter for ASL, Spanish, Chinese, Amharic or another language) should e-mail Diane Lininger at [email protected] by May 6 to request accommodations.

*Parent/guardian consent form, student ID, grade and school name required.
