Several notable changes and updates have unfolded across Olney and immediately surrounding areas in recent months, ranging from long-awaited reopenings to new restaurants preparing to move in.
TOUS Les JOURS is set to take over the former Five Guys space at 3333 Olney Sandy Spring Road. Five Guys closed the Olney location in December after several years in the shopping center, telling customers at the time that the brand plans to return to the area in the future. In the meantime, the space is being repurposed for TOUS Les JOURS, a French-Asian bakery known for its wide selection of baked goods and café offerings. TOUS Les JOURS features a variety of breads, pastries, and cakes that are baked in-store daily. The menu also includes an extensive lineup of coffee and espresso-based drinks, along with teas, making it a popular stop for both quick visits and longer sit-down breaks. The Olney location will join a growing footprint for the bakery in Montgomery County. The first county location opened inside New Grand Mart at 13069 Wisteria Drive in Germantown. A second TOUS Les JOURS later took over the longtime Corner Bakery space at Rio in Gaithersburg. An opening date for the Olney location has not yet been announced.
Qdoba has signed on to open its fourth Montgomery County restaurant, taking over the space previously occupied by Eco Cleaners at 3486 Olney Laytonsville Road in the Olney Shopping Center. The fast-casual Mexican chain will be located next to Royal Bagel Bakery, according to leasing documents. Qdoba Mexican Eats is known for its customizable Mexican-inspired menu, allowing customers to build their own burritos, bowls, tacos, nachos, and salads by choosing from a variety of proteins, rice, beans, and toppings. The chain is especially popular for its 3-Cheese Queso and its long-standing policy of including guacamole and queso at no extra charge on entrees. The Olney restaurant will join existing Montgomery County locations on Tech Road in Silver Spring, Rollins Avenue in Rockville, and in the Rock Grove shopping center in Gaithersburg, which opened in 2022. An opening date for the Olney location has not yet been announced.
Construction is underway at Bubbakoo’s Burritos upcoming Olney location near Roots Market. Bubbakoo’s Burritos is a fast-casual Mexican fusion chain founded in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, in 2008. The concept centers on customizable burritos, bowls, tacos, and quesadillas, along with a menu that includes specialty items and house created combinations. The chain opened its first Montgomery County location as a stall inside Market Hall at Clarksburg Premium Outlets, located at 22705 Clarksburg Road in 2025.
Chicken Salad Chick at 18209 Village Center Drive, next to Hallmark, in the space previously occupied by a karate studio, is expected to open in May. Chicken Salad Chick is a fast-casual restaurant chain specializing in a wide variety of house-made chicken salad flavors, along with Southern-style sides like pasta salad, broccoli salad, fresh fruit, and mac and cheese.
In January 2024, we let you know that Mezeh Mediterranean Grill was coming to 18129 Town Center Dr in Olney, next-door to Chopt. The restaurant will be taking over the space that we previously occupied by The Olney Winery in the Fair Hill Shopping Center. Mezeh is a fast-casual eatery with a buffet-style of offerings that include rice and salad bowls, wraps and a variety of sauces and toppings that are very similar to national chain Cava. Construction has not yet begun. Mezeh Mediterranean Grill opened its first store in Annapolils, MD in 2013 and the chain has additional Montgomery County locations in Aspen Hill, Gaithersburg and Germantown. No opening date has been announced.
The Greene Turtle at 18101 Town Center Drive officially reopened on March 12, following several months of repairs after a vehicle crashed into the restaurant late last year, causing significant damage and a gas leak that forced a temporary closure.
The current Panera location at 18141 Town Center Dr. is listed as being “under negotiation” in leasing documents and was previously listed as “available” since last summer. Employees have shared that the store will be closing in the coming months, but management has been unable to comment. We have not received a response from the company following email to Panera corporate earlier this week.
