A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for all of Montgomery County from 1pm Sunday until 7am Monday.
The latest maps from the National Weather Service are now showing less snow, but more ice from the winter storm that is headed our way tomorrow.
As you can see in the ice map below, a quarter inch to half an inch of ice is possible, which would make travel nearly impossible.
We expect things to get started around 2pm-3pm tomorrow with snow across the area. We’ll see a switch to sleet, which will likely compress the snow that does fall so even if we do end up getting snow in the higher end of the ranges it may not look like it.
Sunday evening and night will be messy as things changeover to rain. The rain will help wash the frozen precipitation away, but it may take some time for that to happen as the ground will be cold.
We can see issues into the morning if it takes longer than anticipated to warm up, but the main concern at the moment is ice.

* WHAT…Significant snow and wintry precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are mostly likely, with up to 6 inches possible. Ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.
* WHERE…The District of Columbia, central, north central and northern Maryland and central and northern Virginia.
* WHEN…From Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.
* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Snow may fall at 1 to 3 inches per hour late Sunday afternoon and early Sunday evening, resulting in nearly impassable roads.
