Potomac

Founded by Christophe Roux, a third-generation baker who grew up near Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera, and his son Benjamin, Boulangerie Chritophe is preparing to open its first Montgomery County.

The newest location will be a new building in Cabin John Village. According to an employee at the Georgetown location, the plan is for the bakery and cafe to open this month (April), but no exact date has been provided.


Olney

Back in November we let you know that Quickway Japanese Hibachi would be moving in to the location that was formerly home to Fashion Cleaners in the Shoppes of Olney shopping center, between CVS and Bubbles Hair Salon (3116 Olney Sandy Spring Rd). The restaurant is now open.

A couple weeks back Quickway installed permanent signage and construction was ongoing, and a few days ago the fast casual restaurant started receiving food deliveries.Fashion Cleaners closed last spring after 8 years in the location. Quickway describes itself as bringing the Teppanyaki cooking technique to a quick service restaurant setting with cooked to order hibachi dishes.


Downtown Silver Spring

Back in April of 2021, we let you know that Firepan KBBQ started construction at the old Pete’s New Haven Style Pizza location at 962 Wayne Avenue Suite L-B in Downtown Silver Spring.

Firepan had its Montgomery County ABS alcohol license hearing on November 4, and has announced an August 1st, 2022 opening date on its website.


Beyond MoCo

“Look… me and the McDonald’s people got this little misunderstanding. See, they’re McDonald’s… I’m McDowell’s. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.”

That’s the famous line delivered by John Amos’ character Cleo McDowell in the 1988 Eddie Murphy hit movie Coming to America.


Entertainment

Krystian Ochman rose to fame when won The Voice of Poland in 2020 by singing Madonna’s Frozen, Frank Sinatra’s My Way (duet with his coach), and Polish song Nie Czejak Mnie w Argentynie. Now, the singer is representing Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest with his song River.

Ochman graduated from Wootton High School in 2017. While at Wootton he starred in many theatrical productions at the school and later moved to Poland where he studied at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Poland.


Damascus

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units responded to a call on Barnes Road in Damascus at approximately 3:45pm on Thursday, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.

Units arrived on the scene of a house fire on Barnes Road, between Clarksburg Road and Bethesda Church Road. At least one person was trapped inside and rescued by responding units. Units also prevented a person from re-entering the burning home and also rescued several dogs from the property.

They include important COVID-19 reminders about spring break, a notice that kindergarten registration is now open, upcoming community engagement events, an update on community engagement officers, w and more.
