The four-year graduation rate for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students has risen to 91.4 percent, according to data released by the Maryland State Department of Education. The MCPS graduation rate rose 2.1 percentage points compared with last year, and is higher than the state average of 87.2 percent.
Per MCPS:
Trader Joe’s has opened its new location at 7900 Wisconsin Avenue, named “Bethesda-Downtown.” This is the second Bethesda location for the grocery chain.
Trader Joe’s held an opening ceremony this morning at 7:55am prior to the store opening for business at 8am.
Back in November of 2020, we let you know that Jongro BBQ, a popular New York Korean BBQ restaurant, would be opening up shop at Wheaton Mall. The restaurant is now open.
Jongro BBQ received its alcohol license from the county on January 6th. The restaurant has taken over the location that was going to be home to Tilted Kilt a few years back, near DSW and the UPS store at 11160 Veirs Mill Road, H15, in Wheaton.
Suki Hana, not Sarku Hana as signage previously stated, will be opening in the Montgomery Mall food terrace.
Per its Arundel Mills description, “Suki Hana/Wokaholic brings the best of the Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Their delicious teriyaki dishes are cooked fresh to order on their teppanyaki grill”
The Gaithersburg Book Festival has selected the finalists for its annual poetry contest for high school students.
The Gaithersburg Book Festival has selected the finalists for its fourth annual poetry contest for high school students. The students had to write a poem on themes of community, escape and/or freedom, and more than 185 entries poured in from around the region.
A Montgomery County man was killed in a Northwest D.C. Stabbing early Monday morning. The Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim as 42 year-old Kenneth Thomas Jr., of Silver Spring, MD.

Melina, a new full-service, fine casual Greek restaurant by the founders of Cava, Cava Mezze, and Julii, opened back in November at 905 Rose Avenue in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose neighborhood. The restaurant announced that it will be opening its outdoor bar to celebrate today’s nice weather.
The outdoor bar is accompanied by a few tables on the patio and will be open when weather permits for it to happen.
