MoCoSnow

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Northwest MoCo. This generally includes areas beginning at Germantown and points north/west (Clarksburg, Damascus, Poolesville, etc.).

Central/SE MoCo is not currently included in the advisory, as a little less precipitation is expected (see maps below). I fully expect all of MoCo and most of the DC Metro area to be included in the advisory later this morning.

This morning we let you know that a period of snow is possible on Saturday following rainfall early in the day. Temps will drop into the 30s on Saturday afternoon and eventually the upper 20s, which would allow for snow in the afternoon.

The evening update from the National Weather Service had almost all of MoCo in the 1 inch range with Damascus in the 1-2″ range.

MoCoSnow

This morning we let you know that a period of snow is possible on Saturday following rainfall early in the day. Temps will drop into the 30s on Saturday afternoon and eventually the 20s. If they drop soon enough, we’ll likely see the rain change to snow before the system heads out.

The latest update from the National Weather Service has almost all of MoCo in the 1 inch range with Damascus in the 1-2″ range. Below you’ll see the latest ‘Forecaster’s Discussion’ per the NWS:

Maryland

Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement after the Board of Revenue Estimates reported an increase in the state’s record budget surplus:

“Today’s incredible revenue estimates increase our already record surplus and reinforce the fact that Maryland continues to have one of the strongest recoveries in America.

Crime

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office:

Greenbelt, Maryland – A federal grand jury has indicted Willie Lamont Hicks, age 50, of Rockville, Maryland, and Mary Ann Mendoza, age 49, of Kensington, Maryland, on federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire and wire fraud.  The indictment was returned on December 22, 2021 and unsealed upon the defendants’ arrests.

Germantown

From the U.S. Department of Justice:

Greenbelt, Maryland – A federal criminal complaint has been filed charging Dwight Luis Clarke, age 31, of Germantown, Maryland, for federal charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, distribution of controlled substances, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.  According to the criminal complaint affidavit, Clarke sold crack cocaine and a heroin/fentanyl mixture, as well as seven firearms, including five privately manufactured firearms, known as “ghost guns.”  The criminal complaint was filed on March 4, 2022, and Clarke was arrested on March 7, 2022.  Upon his arrest, law enforcement seized another apparent semi-automatic privately made firearm from Clarke’s person.  Clarke had his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt yesterday and U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles B. Day ordered that Clarke be detained pending trial.

Burtonsville

The BatSignal is a distress signal device used as a means to summon the superhero, Batman. Though our featured image is a poorly made photoshop, you may be seeing the real thing in Burtonsville soon.

Bill Gibson, the ‘Burtonsville Batman’, stripped down his 1978 Lincoln and was able to convert it into the Batmobile from the 60s Batman TV show entirely on his own.

MoCoSnow

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 50s today, but before we get there we’ll have to deal with some patchy fog and cold temperatures this morning that could cause a few slick spots. Below you”ll see an update from the National Weather Service:

Patches of dense fog has developed east of the Blue Ridge Mountains early this morning. With temperatures near or below freezing, there may be a few slippery spots during this time. Reduce speed and leave extra travel time and following distance. Be alert for slippery spots, and avoid braking or turning suddenly.
