Manna Food Center today announced Deanna Wilson, District Director for Giant Food, was elected as its new board chair during the organization’s recent annual meeting. Wilson, who joined the Manna Food Center Board in 2017, succeeds Lisa Davis, Senior Vice President of Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign.

“As rising board chair, Deanna played such an important role for Manna, especially helping us navigate the pandemic’s unique and formidable challenges,” said Jackie DeCarlo, CEO of Manna Food Center. “I look forward to being guided by Deanna, who brings strong management expertise in an industry so critical to Manna’s mission.”

The Rockefeller Center announced that this year’s Christmas tree is from Elkton, Maryland.

For more than eight decades, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has stood as a holiday beacon for New Yorkers and visitors alike. While the lights, decorations, and stars have changed through the years, visiting the Tree remains a quintessential New York experience.


MoCo Government

On Tuesday the Montgomery County Council voted to approve an amended Board of Health regulation to require seven consecutive days of substantial COVID-19 transmission in Montgomery County before an indoor face covering requirement is reinstated in areas open to the public.

The indoor mask requirement would have been reinstated on Tuesday, November 9, as the seventh consecutive day of substantial transmission would technically have been on November 5 (with a four-day grace period to allow numbers to be confirmed with CDC data). Today, however, on November 4th, the Montgomery County numbers dropped below 50 cases per 100,000 persons, coming in at 49.5

MCPS has been doing targeted outreach to school families to help them make appointments. More appointments for the weekend clinics will be coming online later this morning. We expect supply to ramp up quickly but currently, supply is limited and demand is high.

Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), an innovator in satellite and multi-transport technologies and networks for 50 years, announced today that American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) awarded Pradman P. Kaul, president and CEO of Hughes, the 2021 Aerospace Communications Award. Kaul received the award, which recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of aerospace communications, for his leadership in the creation and development of the very small aperture terminal (VSAT) and its significance to the satellite communications industry.

The Howard County Public School Board of Education voted 8-0 in favor of a motion to “add in one additional 3-hour early dismissal each month for all students beginning December 2021 through May 2022.” The purpose of the calendar modification is to “provide school-based staff with additional time to address increased staff workload and to support employee well-being.”
