Just one day after the indoor mask requirement was lifted in Montgomery County, the “number of cases per 100,000 residents in the last 7 days” has reached 50 again, putting the county back in the “Substantial Transmission” threshold.

We spoke with Montgomery County’s Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Earl Stoddard, who told us that “Board of Health Order 19-975 mandates that Dr. Bridgers, the acting Health Officer, provide official notice if the County proceeds into substantial transmission and set a timeline for the mask requirement.”


MoCo Police

Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the honorable Judge Jeannie Cho, Lemae Matthews, 23, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to murder in the first degree in the death of her younger brother, Christian Matthews, in Silver Spring in 2017.  She was released on a $10,000 unsecured personal bond under several conditions including home detention and 24 hour curfew.

Pursuant to a plea agreement, she faces up to ten years in prison when she is sentenced. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 4th 2022 at 1:30p.m.


Rockville

Polestar Washington DC is now open at 15401 Frederick Road in Rockville, the first of Polestar’s electric car dealerships in the DC area.

Polestar is a Swedish automotive brand established in 1996 by Volvo Cars’ partner Flash/Polestar Racing and acquired in 2015 by Volvo, which itself was acquired by Geely in 2010. The Polestar name originates from the STCC Polestar racing team.


Education

The Montgomery County Board of Education invites you to participate in a virtual town hall to share your thoughts on what characteristics are essential for the next superintendent.

The first virtual town hall will take place on Saturday, October 30th at 10am. Two more virtual town halls will take place on Thursday, November 4th and Wednesday, November 10th (both at 7pm).


MoCo

A Flood Watch is in effect for Central and Southeast Montgomery from 10am Friday morning until 6pm Friday evening.

Due to the rain and potential for flooding, Meadowbrook Local Park in Chevy Chase is closed. Beach Drive is also closed from Knowles in Kensington down to the D.C. line.


Wheaton

Marian Fryer Plaza is located at 2424 Reedie Drive at the Wheaton Triangle Business District. Lot and garage parking is available across the street from the plaza on Grandview Avenue.

All attendees are encouraged to wear costumes.


DMV

Metrorail service will remain at the current reduced levels through at least November 15 as Metro continues to work with the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission on a plan to get 7000-series railcars safely back into service.

Trains will continue operating every 15-20 minutes on the Red Line and every 30-40 minutes on all other lines. Silver Line service will continue to operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Federal Center SW only. Customers are encouraged, where it makes sense for them, to use Metrobus service as an alternative.


MoCoSnow

Areal Flood Watch in effect for Central and Southeast Montgomery from 10am Friday morning until 6pm Friday evening.

It is advised to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.


Education

Students and staff at Whetstone Elementary School in Montgomery Village witnessed a man in what appeared to be a KKK uniform during school today, according to a letter sent home by principal Loretta Woods.

The man was observed in the school parking lot, near the edge of school property, but did not interact with any student or staff member.
