Montgomery Parks invites the community to a celebration at the newly completed Josiah Henson Museum and Park on Sunday, September 12, 2021, from 12 – 4 p.m.

The celebration is free and open to the public and will feature family-friendly events, period reenactments, and musical performances.


Bethesda

Provisions celebrated its grand opening at Bethesda’s Wildwood Shopping Center yesterday, Wednesday, September 8th.

The 750-square-foot culinary gift shop is located at 10231 Old Georgetown Road next to Blue Mercury, in the location that was formerly home to Blanca Flor Silver Jewelry.


Damascus

The Damascus Freedom 5K is an annual community event held on the weekend closest to 9/11. This year, it’ll take place on Saturday, September 11th, with registration beginning at 7:30am.

Proceeds from the event are donated to nonprofit organizations that combine to support troops and their families, including the Wounded Warrior Foundation, USO, Fisher House, Disabled American Veterans, and Hero Dogs.

Silver Spring

Saints Constantine & Helen will hold its annual Greek festival this weekend. The festival will take place over three days– starting Friday, September 10th and lasting until Sunday, September 12th.

It will take place on the grounds of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, located at 701 Norwood Road in Silver Spring:

The Farmers’ Almanac has released its 2021-2022 extended winter outlook.

MoCo and almost all of Maryland seem to fall under the “Typical winter chill, Stormy January, Tranquil February” category. Just to our south is the “Quite chilly, mixed bag of precipitation” category that we may be a little more used to in recent years.

9/8/21, 10:30AM Update: Adam Schefter has tweeted clarification on Tanya Snyder’s comments on his podcast, stating that a Washington Football Team spokesperson said the list of eight names were a selection of names that were highlighted in the WFT’s Making the Brand Video, and not a final list of potential name candidates.

Tanya Snyder, co-CEO of the Washington Football Team and wife of team co-owner Dan Snyder, announced the final 8 names that remain in contention as the nickname for the Washington Football Team via Adam Schefter’s podcast.
