The Blake High School athletics department announced the passing of former P.E. Teacher, soccer coach and assistant principal Rudy Tyrell after a battle with Leukemia. Tyrell also served as assistant principal at Gaithersburg High School and most recently returned to MCPS as an acting administrator at Seneca Valley High School after initially retiring after 30 years of service with MCPS in 2020.

Comedian Mark Curry is coming to town with two shows at Bethesda Theater this Sunday, December 15th. Perhaps best known as the star of the ABC sitcom “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper” and as one of the various hosts of the syndicated series “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”, Curry became a household name in the 90s. The shows will be at 6pm (dinner & doors at 4pm) and 9:30pm (dinner & doors at 8:30pm), with tickets available here.

Parinaz Fathi, a Rockville native who graduated from the University of Maryland in 2015 before moving on to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to complete her Ph.D.in 2020, has been named tot he 2025 Forbes 30 Under 30 List in the Science category. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has has charged 29-year-old Isaac Tomas Pellegrino of Laytonsville, with homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, in connection with a fatal collision that occurred in July 2024. (more…)

The Washington Commanders announced today that they have named safety Jeremy Reaves the winner of the team’s 2024 Ed Block Courage Award. The honor is given annually to a player from each National Football League team who displays extraordinary courage in the face of adversity.
